      Creative financing?

Just wondering if anyone has done anything really out of the ordinary to finance the build of their cars.
If you sold a child to Michael Jackson I don't want to know about it, but anything else might make an interesting read.

selling plasma while im at school and designing parts in Unigraphics for people... Not that interesting.

I considered being a male prostitute, but then my girlfriend frowned upon that idea so i stuck with the plasma...

      Creative Financing!

I am right there with ya on the selling of Plasma. I sold Plasma twice a week my senior year of college to buy performance parts for an Oldsmobile that I used to have. Couple that with working at Autozone (20% discount on parts), and you would be amazed with what you can buy. Now these days I have a line of credit at the bank. You may want to check these out. I got one with a super low interest rate, this makes the monthly payments a lot lower than what they would be with a credit card.

I travel to Iraq and Afghanistan a couple times a year to provide training and equipment to the troops. It keeps a lot of guys from getting killed and makes a few extra dollars for the car so its all good.

in high school i worked at subway and always filled my machinists fist with free sandwich cards, parted out dozens of cars, worked the auto auctions with a local dealer which allowed me to buy anything @ auction and resell in the paper and almost unlimited trailer useage. got to know a junk man pretty well so i had first crack @ any cars/engines he pulled in, also hauled off the parted out heaps. roofed a house for a set of cylinder heads. the rest is illegal so it wont be discussed openly.

Nothing particularly creative. Just 800-1000 hours of overtime every year. Fixing ships for the Navy... It's a great time. A whole lot of , and . When the OT drops off, I start spending money.

like $20 each time and you can do it twice a week for an hour of your free time. May not sound like a lot, but any bit counts when your a poor college kid...

I sold a bunch of stuff on eBay too.

I also run a small tax /accounting service from my home. Besides the extra cash, I barter with a few clients including a good Mechanic (who has a lift), an Electrician (to wire the gargage) and a Contractor (to do some work around the house, so I have more time to spend in the garage).

Now if I could just add a bar or liquor store, I could really save some $$$

I traded some tools I didn't need (at the time...DOH!), 15x14 & 15x3.5 Drag Stars with tires, odds & ends, and a little cash for my body and paint. Now it's old (never been great) and I'm not affraid to drive it every day.

I traded some Coca Cola collectibles and very little cash for my Magnesium C5 wheels.

I married into a family of photographers, so I've traded "school" pictures for parts.

Thought about being a stripper once, but I can't dance.

I've traded time for me helping work on other people's cars to get help welding and machining for my car.

Along with spending a ton of money, I've also legally acquired parts just for being in the right place at the right time.

      Sorry for the length,
      Tony~

      1. Starve. It seems to be what I am doing now in order to get this Blazer done in a timely fashion.

      2. If you carpooled at today's gas prices, you could save a fortune.

I use the UG at my school... Illinois State University. I currently am working for a professor designing parts for model trains that are no longer made. But i also do whatever else is needed for misc. other things. Like this year another professor asked me to design and CNC cavity and core plates for several plastic injection molded parts. By doing some of this they are more open to letting me use the Rapid prototyping(FDM)/CNC and such for my own personal use. I plan on doing a few custom peices for my Camaro this year.
