it has just been super busy. ordering parts like crazy ,decided that we could use a new tool to help with the install so got side tracked on a different project hopefully this will save some time in the future. Built this out of some parts and pieces off an old conveyor and a couple parts from mc master carr co. you are just going to have to take this for now because my phone is dead more picts. soon.

Ok here is the thingamajig dodad contraption that we made for a multi purpose jig to help install and uninstall the rear out of the chevelle and what ever comes up. if anyone wants to build anything like it let me know if I can help you out.

Nice build...but having fixed calipers with floating axles is asking for pad knock back...

What's being used as a parking brake on here or is there not going to be one for the street?

still working on this plan yet. I have a couple of ideas that we are kickin around. the drum in rotor that it came with just was not going to work well so we are looking for other options now.hope to get back to this soon.

Your axles are retained by c-clips. I am sure that you noticed how you can move the axle in and out when they are installed. When you use a floating caliper, this is not an issue, because the caliper moves on the guide pins along with the axle.

With fixed calipers, the caliper is no longer able to move, well, because it is fixed...LOL...So what happens is that when you get on the brakes before a corner, the caliper will squeeze the rotor, you let off the brakes and enter a turn, the axle will move and push the pads over to one side. The next time you get on the brakes, the brake pedal will go almost to the floor because there is wasted motion to push the pads back against the rotor. This is called pad knock back. So the brakes will need to be pumped to make it firm again...

On a CTSV (or Corvette, or new Camaro...) this is not a problem because they use sealed hubs that don't have any play. On a live axle with c-clips, this is a real issue.

      Hope that makes sense.

No problem. There are several threads in the brake forum that discuss pad knock back. Even with floating calipers some pad knock will be present, but not as bad. As the article says, everything flexes during cornering and it's almost impossible to completely eliminate it. Going to a Ford 9" can help, because they retain the axles better than GM rear ends.

Frankly, anything more than a LS1 Camaro style brake setup on A-bodies is too much, since the front brakes do most of the work.

Also, since you are using the original spindles on the front, you may experience some pad knock back there, because the hub will have some play. I just want you to have a safe car!

Have you put your tie rods and center link on to make sure you have clearance? That seems to be a common gotcha on these cars.

yes and no I have but still playing with some spindle and steering ideas I will take a closer look at it to double check still have to modify the oil pan for turbo drains so if its an issue I can mod the pan if it needs it. Thanks for the heads up.

I made all the brackets on and old school milling machine templated out with plywood. used a couple chunks of recycled alum. still more to come on these.
