      tank material ?

i am looking at a ricks tank. i see that you can now get them in aluminum and save about 35 lbs vs there SS tanks. the real question i have is about the durability vs the SS tank. my car is stored out side in the winter and the roads up here (alaska) suck. i dont want to have to worry about the tank having problems and corrosion problems. i plan on going with a vaporworx setup and just dont want the weight.

If your racing and every millisecond counts go aluminum and mount the tank in the trunk. if not the extra weight really isn’t an issue. I personally think you cant beat stainless steel.

Considering the difference in weight, would the difference in the cost of shipping have an effect on your decision?

I dont know what your trying to say here, but aluminum is plenty durable for a fuel tank. Next time you pass a big rig on the highway look and see what the fuel tanks are made of...
      Many OEM tanks are plastic.

Corrosion isn't an issue with SS or aluminum. Aluminum would be my choice.

I would look into anodizing the aluminum or it will get oxidized (white) from the road salts etc. Or stainless and it is a non-issue.

Personally, for Alaska roads, I'd go stainless just for strength.

I guess I'm just imagining thinner stuff.

plastic oem tanks are quite tough.

I built my own using 10 ga 6061 Al with formed end tanks...it's plenty light and with the baffles, I can stand on it! I did, however, install a rock shield.

It'll be coated with bedliner prior to installation.
