oil pressure concern.

As I continued my break in and programming of my efi, I noticed my oil pressure gauge pegged hi. It was nicely at 60 earlier. If I rev the engine it settles nicely to 60 again. This is a cobbled up setup out of an old boat as I haven't purchased new gauges yet. Am I looking at a gauge issue or is there a bigger problem?
Any thoughts?

I had an engine that had fluctuating oil pressure like that. I found out a flat tappet lifter lobe went flat & little slivers of metal were causing the oil pump relief valve to stick open or closed at random. Not saying this is what's happening to you, but be watchful. Maybe cut the oil filter open & take a look.

I'm not familiar with boats.....is it a mechanical or electric gauge?

My post was a bit rushed and confusing. It's a 462 pontiac in a Firebird. It has a hydraulic roller cam , aluminum heads and a pJ 3 efi set up. First start was Sunday night. Started good. Oil pressure was 60 psi. The gauge was an old electrical unit out of my old boat. I changed out all the gauges because they were not very dependable.
Got around to a second try today after fixing a few coolant leaks. That's when the gauge spiked. I did go and purchase a mechanical gauge from pep boys, pressue was back to 60 and stable so I'm hoping the old gauge went south. I suppose it still dosnt rule out a blockage because I shut the motor down so the object may have fallen away from what it was blocking
For now I'm cautiously optimistic.....

I'd say it was all in the gauge.
