      Which power steering pump

I have a 75 TA that has the Heidt's front subframe with power rack and pinion steering. The problem is the stock 70's power steering pump works fine at cruise but at a standstill there is very little power assistance. I do have the bypass valve as not to over pressure the rack. What is the best pump to run. I have a Pontiac engine and still have have v belts. I can make my own pulley if required .

I would talk to Heidt's... If anyone can answer your question they should be able to. Do you know if the rack is a MII rack? It may not need the bypass valve.

Astro's got it. Find out the rack flow rate requirements. If it's a MII rack it needs a lower flow rate than say a stock vette PS pump. You can modulate the flow rate via a turnone reducer valve or there's even a variable rate, adjustable valve for fine tuning.
