      New guy from Michigan

Hi everyone. I just acquired a 69 Grand Prix that I plan to build into a nice driver with a modern touch that will be a perfect family cruising car. I haven't seen too many of these cars used but I think it will work out good for me. I will start a build thread as I get things figured out but I am shooting for a 5.3 or 6.0 4l60e rear disc brakes and suspension upgrades as the budget allows.

Welcome to the site........A 6.0L sounds like a natural choice for that big car. Do you have anything else planned for the car yet? Im not exactly sure but I believe the 69-72 Gran Prix shared the suspension with the GM A-Body, which we have some great stuff for so let me know.

Make sure you post some pictures of that great looking Poncho when you get a chance!

Here are some pics. The car is very solid except for the roof as you can see in the pics. It is very thin in spots so I need to figure out a way to fix it. If I just welded in patches it would be hard due to how thin it is. My buddy gave me a 5.3 that was swapped out because it was running rough but after he had it out we found a broken valve spring. I figured I would run an LS6 cam and valve springs, f body intake and a GM Musclecar oil pan. Only issue is i'm not sure which mounting plates to use since most don't mention anything about Pontiacs and I haven't figured out it the Pontiac 400 and a sbc had the same mounts.

Welcome Jeepman! Another Michigander to toss on the pile.
The roof on the GP will need to be replaced... No other way to do it. Start a search for a "non-vinyl roof" car. I don't know how many years the GP's used the same roof but, if another year will work, that will widen your search window.
As far as motor mounts go that really isn't an issue. The frame will have all of the holes for either Chevy or Pontiac mounts as the same frame was used under all of the GM brands. Monte Carlo risers will bolt in. Of course it's not that difficult to fab up a set of mounts.

You need to call these guys in the Detroit Michigan area. I think you might be able to get some good parts from them and maybe they will kow of some salvage yards in the area that have some cars to look at as well.
