New guy w/old elky. And Hello

Hi there guys. I guess I should intro myself with this post. Been lurking just over a year trying to get ideas and keep coming back to the threads on Elkys by Mr Anderson and Yelcamino. I have owned this 67 Elky since I was 14(now 45). Dad bought it when I was 5, it's been with us ever since. I am the 3rd owner and my kids are fighting over which of them will inherit it. LOL
I restomodded it over 20 years ago, rebuilt the 283/PG combo, new interior and paint a few mods along the way with 72 chevelle disc's on the front and stock drums out back. And an H~O Racing suspension under her. She handles quite well, but stiff. Well that will all change in the next few years as money and other projects allow( I have my Dad's 57 tbird, and am wanting to build a Cobra:/).

So here she is how she looked when I was 16,

      First car show in 1996

      a couple weeks later

fast forward to present day, she's a little dirty just replaced booster and master last weekend. Wanted to get her out and wash and drive her but it's raining. Oh well..

I hope you all enjoy looking at her. I have several plans for her in the future. Sheet metal mods trim removal, shaved door handles, Wilwood or Baer brakes, coilover conversion, 383 stroker with fuel injection, TKO600 OR T56, etc... etc....

      Enjoy, Chris Phelps

Welcome to the site Chris! Great story of the car and where it has been all these years! Garage looks great too! Are you planning to upgrade the suspension along with the coil-over conversion? Is the steering stock still?

Rich , thanks for the welcome. The steering box came from a 1980 WS-6 Trans Am. Much nicer than stock. The suspension is up for debate right now, I have been drooling over the speed tech track time, but I will be doing a coil over conversion. Also looking at 18x8, 18x10 forgeline wheels, wilwood 6p brakes and so on. As to the coil over set up I am unsure as to the weight rating to start with on the coils. Was thinking somewhere around 450-500 to start with. Also building a 383 stroker with fuel injection for it, will be running a TKO-600 or T56. Building my list while enjoying driving her rt now.

I am in the process of selling a 57 tbird to fund it while about to send kids to college in a couple of years so progress will be slow but fun.

As to the shop I just finished it a few months ago, 40x60 with upstairs and plenty of storage and work space plus plumbed with internet and surround speakers. Yep it's a rough way to build a car in a new shop with plenty of room when the first time I built the elky was in a 1 car carport with a 8x10 storage room. LOL.

Thanks again, and I'll update as I can. I am sure I will have plenty of questions for the future. The main plan is to build a fun vehicle to take to track days and trips with my son and or buddies with their rides.

      Chris

      Chris,

Sounds good..... we can put together a total car package with coil-overs at all four corners for you.

Rich after browsing your site I may get with you in the future as I decide the final direction once parts begin to be purchased.

      Thanks for your input.

Sounds good Chris..... we have some great parts/kits that work great on A-body cars and we are developing more for the future!

Here is a install article that the folks at Chevy Hi Performance did on our Level 2 kit:

BTW: We have killer rear control arms for that SSR too!
