      Recovering stock dash

Do you think it would possible and relatively economical to have a leather shop re-cover a stock 1968 Camaro dash pad with leather? I want to use the stock interior but add some modern touches to it. For example I think it would look nice to do a black leather dash pad, then do the stitching on it in a thread color similar to my exterior paint.

Maybe not that economical with leather, but it would be a nice touch. You might want use one of the synth leather-like vinyls. I'm going to do mine as a way to help change my interior color.

That's a good idea too, I will have to look around for some upholstery shops in the area

Once it is done you will have to post a pic. I called up my buddy that owns a body shop and he said his brother is just getting into doing car upholstery, so I am gonna let him take a try at it.

Look online for whisper or symphony vinyl.

http://www.yourautotrim.com/black3.html I used this on my custom door panels, it's the Whisper vinyl, the UV resistance of the Symphony is less than the Whisper. Being up on the dash this will be important. The folks at yourautotrim.com are great to deal with.

I want to do this as well but the 2nd Gen dash looks a little intimidating to try, it'll be a winter project.

I never liked the look of the phony stitching on the molded 2nd gen. Camaro dashes. I approached an upholstery shop to cover my dash in leather, and they persuaded me to go with vinyl for the UV protection as mentioned (as well as cost). They have some REALLY convincing leather-look vinyls out! I also had them do my console, and they used contrasting stitching on them both. Looks f'n awesome! Hope you can make it out in the pics.

Hey Todd, since I'm local to you I very interested to know -- who did the work and what did they charge? I'd be interested in getting my dash done too.

Looks Awesome!!!!! How about some daylight pics????

Heres some truck dash pads done in Symphony and Whisper. First picture is Whisper, second is Symphony. Both are pretty nice vinyls, but the Whisper has more of a matte finish.

Krist Kustoms did the interior you posted. Ultraleather and spacer cloth. They did a great job.

I fixed the cracks and 1/8" foam on it. And Darrin Cutter wrapped it. I help him.
