need help with s10 roll bar

Hello guys, Im building a 91 s10 for auto x and some low tech speed road racing, 85-90 mph class with a tech speed of 120mph, these slower speeds do not require a roll bar or any sort of a cage. Originally I was not going to install any sort of protection, but the more I think about it there can be a very real possibility on a road race of going off the road and at that speed something very bad could happen. Now this will prolly get me flamed but Im wanting a roll bar or a cage that DOES NOT have the bars that go thru the rear window or thru the back of the cab in any form. Is there a safe form of a bar or cage that I can purchase or have built that will have a decent amount of protection, Im not against having the bar that is behind the dash and bars going thru the front of the cab to the engine bay. Im looking for something will provide some form of protection, this truck will be more of a daily driver, auto x then anything else so I would like to stay away from something that makes more unsafe on the street as Im not a big fan of bars in a street car, but if I would have to take out the head liner to gain a bit more clearance I'll do what I have to, Im also building a 80's g-body cutlass that will have a full cage and will be more of a track car and road race car, and thats my hesitation to over caging my s10, eventually it be end up being auto x only. Thanks for any insight that comes my way.The more I read these safty forums the more I think about skipping the road race events till I get the cutlass done, but these events are hard to pass up and getting the chance to do them only comes around so often.

I forgot to add it is an extended cab truck, my idea is to put in 2 main hoops in that area, with one with an x brace and one with the cross bar where the seat belts attach too and then forward down bars, the ones that go in next to the seat and door and tie the two main hoops together, thats my idea at least, i know nothing about bars and just would like some sort of roll over protection, thanks

Your plan would give you rollover protection. I don't think any sanctioning body would declare it a legal cage/roll bar without the bars to the rear though. Even though no roll bar/cage is required, they may not allow a vehicle with a non-legal cage to participate, if for nothing more than to cover their backsides. Check with whoever you will be running with to be sure before you start.

Ive been calling around and this is pretty much what I keep hearing, Im not all that concerned with being legal but then I get the second part of what you said and every one that I have talked to said they just wouldnt run a roll cage to prevent being turned down by anyplace, kinda silly since Im trying to be safe, but my next step is to get ahold of these people that I plan on running with and see what they say, I need to draw up a picture tho so I can present my idea a bit better.
