      oil pressure sensor x2?

      I have a LS3 and i'm running Dakota digital gauges. I spoke with tech support today & he said i must use their sending unit for gauges... Problem is i can only find one place to mount a sensor/sending unit...& my CPU requires one as well...
      1.Should i get a T and run 2 sending units out of same port- anyone done this?
      2. Use the DD sensor- tap into the wiring for my ECM to run off of. This would look the best.
      3. Keep my ECM hooked to sensor & tap into my bulkhead connector oil prss. output on CPU?

      Some people drill and tap the bypass fitting on the oil pan for the gauge. I've seen some use a t-fitting on the location behind the intake. It's just a matter of preference on which location you want to use. Also, try searching here, Lat-g, and ls1tech.com. There's a wealth of information on these forums. Your question has been asked many times so this might be why you haven't gotten much response. I hope this helps!

      FYI and for anyone who has this question in the future! Ok- after some research...I found out that my ECM/engine harness DOES NOT have to be plugged into the oil pressure sending unit to operate- in fact it doesn't even use it....I will just replace it with my DD sending unit and run it straight to the gauges!

      Nice to know i plan on running these gagues on my 68 camaro w/ LS1 what did u do about the speedo?

      On ls3 engine harness is a bulkhead connector -next to engine fuse box-that is plugged off. Pin C is the "engine speed"- tach.

      Sorry... Now that i covered the tach...the speedo hooks up to mechanical side output on tranny & converts it to digital

      Bumping this VERY old thread, but just running into this issue as well. I could use the oil port above the oil filter for a sensor location with wither the DD connection, or ECM connection, but it is very tight on header, and heat will be an issue. (maybe 1.5" of clearance with header at best)
      Is it true what's written above about the LS ecm not needing the oil pressure sensor hooked up? Would the ecm not send engine into "limp mode" with no oil pressure showing?

      From the GM LS Engine Control System PDF (document 19171935, from 2012!):

      Oil Pressure Sensor: if your harness connector does not fit your oil pressure sensor you can purchase sensor p/n 12616646 or equivalent. This is an optional connection and is not required for your control system to operate.

      Also, from an older version:

      Optional Connections (Not required for operation)
      Cooling Fan Control Wire
      Alternator Control Connector
      *Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Connector
      Vehicle Speed Sensor Connector
      Optional User Outputs Bulkhead
      Connector
      (12-way)
      * Note: Some versions of Oil Pressure Sensor will not connect
      to this harness. If your sensor will not connect, you will need to
      replace the sensor with GM Part Number 12616646 if the oil
      pressure output is desired (the oil pressure sensor is not used
      by the ECM and is not required for operation).

      Hard to believe. And this is a VERY old thread!

      Thanks for posting up steve, and that answers my question! Yes, old indeed, I was about on page 9-10 of my search, lol.
      Running a speartech LS harness, and dakota digital on my 67 camaro, being that the DD needs the direct connection for gauge to work, what would be the best thing to do with oil pressure wiring coming off of the speartech harness? Zip tie it up under the dash? It was recommended to use a can bus block under the dash, but my clearance issue of running a sensor above the oil filter location and heat from the header. I could wrap the header, but it is still so close, even if I run a 90.

      For my Dakota Digital installation I just decided to use their ODBII connection to run the gauges. That way I just needed 1 oil pressure sender and (ostensibly) 1 coolant temperature sender, and I just pulled all of the information off of the bus. I don't think that helps you much, however. Oor it adds $120 to your build :-|

      So ya know, ya just cost me a $120!! lol. I was not aware that they offered that bus, makes it much more simple. Thanks again for the info!

      Glad that I could help? ha ha. It is really convenient, this way the engine computer is still getting the oil pressure info (which makes me sleep better at night even though I know it isn't doing anything with it) and you get to pluck it off to display on your Speedo or Tach message center and set up an alarm on that parameter.
