      One piece door windows..

Has anyone removed the vent window for a one piece glass? Thinking along the lines of being done to a Chevelle since the Camaros seem to mostly have it already.
Anyone know what is involved, or if it can be done at all?
I think it would help the smoothness of my Skylark even more now that the diprails are shaved.
      Thanks.

I'm working on one-piece door glass for 68-72 El Caminos. 69 and later Chevelles already have it. The problem is the glass is curved, not straight. That means I have to convince a glass fabricator to make some and right now we're not having much luck.

Cool, let me know how things are going with it. I think my Skylark has flat windows so it will probably be easier to do.
What will you do for sealing to the body?Mine would seal fine to the 1/4 window and to the roofline, but would need to do something for the a-pillar.

      removing vent windows

I removed the ventwindow on my 62 Nova. The glass in my Nova is stainght. I purchased a front window channel frame kit from Watson's Street works. It took some time to install the new front channel. The edge of the door at the window changes where the vent window starts and I had to cut and straighten it out. You can order window channel felt by the foot from street rod shops. I purchased my side glass from Vintage Glass but I'm sure there are plenty of places that will cut it for you. I created a window template out of a 1/4" board and sent to them.

Try Hemmings. I contacted someone several years ago about making curved laminate glass for a vintage airplane I was working on and they were able to do it. They made lots of glass for antique automobiles and were located somewhere in CA.

Dennis, the Nova has a door frame right? The Skylark, as well as most a-bodies dont have the frames. I was looking at the car this moroning, and it seems like it may be easier than I first thought. There is a seal around the top and A pillar that seals the vent window and door glass to the car. Might be as simple as getting a piece of glass made and filling in the vent window to door area with the appropriate sheetmetal. Sounds easy enough...right?

      Removing vent windows

My Nova is a post car but they made them both in hard tops and sedans, (post). The door skin itself is the same for either door so you may still need to rework the lip around the vent window. You still need to run a new front window channel down inside the door to guide the window inside the door. It shouldn't be too hard.

      Good luck.

I remember on the Falcon Overhaulin episode they removed the vent windows and showed them making the glass. Flat windows should be easy. It is the curved ones that will be a problem.
