      Ls1 build question

What is the biggest bore and stroke you can do to the motor to get more power but still be reliable as a weekend street car? Hope i worded that right! lol

      Ls1 build question

What block are you going to use? A factory ls1 block, lq4, lsx, ls3?

383 is the biggest the ls1 will go before needing to sleeve the block, factory it is 346. At that time, its better to just get a 6.0.

      Ls1 build question

Yep 383 is all you can do. A 4.0 stroke crank will make 383 with an ls1 block. Make sure you use very good components and excellent machine work. The 4 inch stroke crank will pull the piston partially out of the bore at bdc and does tend to wear the pistons a bit. Just use good machine work and keep the piston speed down and you will be good to go.

If you step up to a 6.0 block then you can do all the way up to a 416 depending on overbore.

LS1s have been built with 4.1" and 4.125" strokes but the expense and smaller bore make it a less common combination. If you're going to spend that kind of money on the shortblock most start with a bigger bore to allow the motor to breath.

6.0s have been taken out to 427s.

LS1 block bore: .005-.007 over is what most do. .010 is the generally accepted max bore on the 99+ 5.7 blocks. Again some have gone .012 even on a '98 block.

That could be an LS1 or LS6 block but the max bore or stroke doesn't change.

It would be extremely unlikely to have an LS6 block in an '02 Vette unless he knows whether or not it is a z06. It will be an LS1 block with an LS6 intake.

Majority did have the LS1 block and it should have the LS6 intake. The percentage of LS6 blocks depends on who you listen to. I've read 25% of '02 f-bodies had LS6 blocks, again I'm not sure I would believe this. A Z06 motor would have the 243 heads.

Right, never said it wasn't possible, but unlikely. And yes the LS6 had 243 casting heads. 97-98 LS1 had 806, 99-00 had 853, 01+ had 241.

What are your goals? Any power adders?

90% street motor or any track 1/4 mile or HPDE time?

What parts do you have just the bare block, short block, long block?

Spend some time on ls1tech. You can probably find somebody who has done just about anything possible with ls1 stroker combos. The other option is to call a reputable ls1 builder. There are several out there with good reputations. Try to pick one who sponsors the board here.
