Way back when I swapped a 400 HO Pontiac (from a 72 Grand Prix SJ) along with a rebuilt TH350 transmission into a 1979 Grand Am. If memory serves me, all I did was keep the 301 motor mounts for the 400. I did this as a sophomore in college and it was pretty straightforward. I kept the 301's radiator for a while but eventually switched over to a 4 row unit.
