      Trunk Mount Battery - Disconnect Switch?

      What's the consensus on using a disconnect switch when trunk mounting a battery?

      Not really necessary as far as I know. It is a good idea though and they aren't expensive. It is an excellant anti-theft device if you hide it out of sight.
      Look into a trunk mounted solenoid also so the battery cable to the starter is only hot during crank.

      I'm setting up mine with a disconnect switch even though its under the hood....I like the idea of not having to undo anything to disconnect the battery in an emergency.

      What's the intended purpose? Most of the ones I have seen are for safety (i.e. shut down in case of fire or fuel leak, etc.). These would typically be a mechanical linkage to the battery either from inside the cabin where you can just grab it and bail out, and/or on the rear of the car for a track official or whatever to pull. If it's just intended to make disconnecting the battery easier for doing wiring work or whatever, I'm not sure I'd bother.

      The intended purpose is for safety reasons because my solenoid is mounted in the engine compartment. I found one that Painless makes that is an electrically actuated solenoid/disconnect that would be easy to trunk mount. I have also looked at the battery post disconnect but don't know how safe or easy it would be to get to in case of an electrical fire. The Painless one might be the best choice but it's a tad expensive. Thanks for the input!
