      Wilwood MC Reservoir Cover issue.

Along with my C6 Z06 brakes/rotors I installed a Wilwood 7/8" bore master cylinder with no power assist. I will say I am extremely pleased with the brake performance. My issue is with the cover on the MC. I initially had brake fluid seeping up around the cover screws and when it sat for several months the fluid removed some of the paint on the cover. I thought these covers were annodized but I guess Wilwood decided to paint them. At this point, I plan to strip the rest of the paint off the cover and run it bare aluminum. I'm just a little dissapointed with this.

being in the brake business the first thing you'll notice is all of willwoods products are built down to a price. in performance brakes mono-block calipers are the best, 2 piece are the less expensive but (depending on who makes them) still good option. i have dynalights on my car and those are 3 piece calipers! they are the biggest pos calipers in the world. they flex like a garbage bag. I wish someone else would make better calipers for my car. but with out getting on too much of a tangent i'll finish with all of willwoods stuff is cheap stuff built cheaply.

I have to say, your post is quite suspect. You work for Performance Friction (according to your website) and you just KNOW Wilwoods, especially the Dynalites (you got the name wrong), are just the worst, yet you put them on your car anyway? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. So just how much flex have you recorded on these calipers?

Honestly a professional coming in here and bashing a competitors product without any technical data makes you and your company look bad. I'm sure PFC does not endorse such activity.

I will add that you picked Wilwood's lowest line. They sell many calipers for all budgets. The FSL for example is quite hard to beat for its sub $200 price.

Finally your generalization on 1 vs 2pc calipers is just that. 2pc calipers have a huge advantage in that they use steel bolts to hold the caliper together. Steel has about 2.5 times the stiffness of the surrounding aluminum and therefore helps stiffen the caliper. A 1pc caliper has to make up that stiffness with more aluminum and many times fancy bridge designs.

i do work for PFC, but i wasn't trying to get involved in who is better then who bashing. i hope that point is evident by me not talking about who i work for. i also agree with you, product bashing is not something i generally advise. It does make the person doing the bashing look bitter, and i dont want to come off like that. i have those calipers on my car because willwood is the only calipers available. part of my problem is that miata people are so god danm cheap the only BBK any suppliers make is with (meant for the rear) dynalights. If someone else made a kit i would have those. I do have a beef it isn't so much with Willwood but with those cheap as crap miata people. Being trapped into 1 option has given me a short fuse. I do plan on upgrading to the 6 piston 2 piece superlights. unless i can get someone to build a bracket for some PFC monoblock z34 calipers .

I would hate to take this thread any more off topic. if anyone would want to talk brake tech i am open and willing to explain why monoblock calipers are sooooo dope lol!

Sorry for weighing-in so late on this issue. The process we use on the covers for our Tandem Master Cylinders is called E-Coat or more technically, electrodeposition. It is a very expensive four-step operation that normally provides a robust finish that resists brake fluid as well as several other caustic substances. I'm not sure why your particular lids failed, but we want to make sure that you are provided with replacements that won't fail. Please contact us at by calling 805-388-1188 or email us at cutomerreply.com whenever you have an issue with any of our products.

I've got Dynalites on my '73 Camaro. I've had the car on a road circuit and autocrossed it. The brakes performed flawlessly, no premature fade, no knock back isues, in a word GREAT. I've also got a Wilwood M/C up front of my Hydraboost system and never had any fluid leak from the cover of any kind. The car is garaged for at least 4 months in the winter.

Thanks Wilwood, keep up the good work.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I found this one while searching for part numbers. I have Wilwood Dynapro's front and back, Wilwood proportioning valve, Wilwood/McLeod clutch MC, and a Wilwood tandem brake MC. I have been very happy with the braking, but the brake MC cover leaks around all of the bolt holes and now the paint has started to peel and a few people have commented on it.

I tried calling, and sent an e-mail to [email protected] over the weekend, but haven't heard back yet. Orginally I was just looking for the part number for the black cover and the seal that goes under it. Although it's not a show car, I still want it to look decent. What do I need to do to get this replaced? The vendor that I bought it from on here is no longer a sponsor and not someone I wish to deal with again. Here are some pics of the paint that is peeling. Thanks.

Hats off to Wilwood for stepping up here. Mine was peeling as well. I contacted Matt (MCB) where I bought mine and they were very prompt in getting me a replacement through Wilwood. Thanks.

Send an email to [email protected] and ask him about covers. I spoke with him on the power tour about them and mentioned I needed one for a project and he sent me one for free. He said it was from there returns pile but its in really nice shape. Talk about great customer service

Thanks for the contact Brandon. I e-mailed Michael today, and he got right back to me. They are sending me a new cover and seal. It looks like the cover I got was from a batch that was e-coated rather than anodized. They said they have since gone back to anodizing the lids to prevent this from happening in the future. Great customer service as always!

I saw those when I was looking for the Wilwood part number. They are from Marquez Design, and look great.

Wilwood is hooking me up with a replacement cover and seal free of charge, and I like the black cover with the aluminum MC. It goes well with the rest of my car, so I'm happy to keep the Wilwood cover, but thanks for the link.

I'll let you know when I get it. I'm also interested in the difference in finishes, since the new one is supposed to be black anodized and I believe the one that peeled is their black e-coating. I'll post pics of them both to compare.

I got home today and found a package from Wilwood. Thanks Michael for taking care of me. As promised here are pics of the old, new and old vs new. The new cover has a little more "grain" to it, which I prefer. Also the lines of the lettering a little thinner which gives it a crisper look. For future reference, the part numbers are 330-8573 (cover) and 210-8458 (diaphragm).
