      Model build off

I wondered if anyone here build models? If there is anyone here that would want to have a "build off" I think it could be alot of fun. We could come up with some rules and a timeline.

I used to be into the scale models big time. Had a business making turned aluminum & photo-etched parts until the bottom dropped out.
      Check out my website: www.mas-parts.com
This is one I built back in 1989-90... Won a few trophies with it...

Looks Great, Mark, but who aligned the fenders & doors; the gap is too far (just kidding)... oh, sometimes I forget that MODEL cars can't be aligned like REAL cars! LOL

I've tried to organize online model car contests, with lack of interest or participation from others, but I still support it, and agree that it would be FUN, to see how others get creative with their projects!

How about a NASCAR inspired GSX (notice rollcage/window net/hood pins/etc.):

Yea, it's kind of sad looking, I know. Just keep in mind the model is 22 years old so go easy on it. When it was fresh everything lined up perfectly. I cut the body apart to open the doors and trunk and the whole front clip lifts off. Over time the plastic has "shrunk" which gives the result you see here... The doors actually "clicked" shut which, obviously, they don't do now.
      Inside the trunk..

You can't see it but there is a key in the ignition.

I would be up for it. Been building models for 40 years.

Being this is Pro-Touring.com we should do a PT build. I have done a couple community build project on other sites.
Have to start with a unstarted or little started kit.
Anything as long as it a PT build.
Have finish date, say start of SEMA 2012.
Have the rest of the board vote on the winner.
To get into the contest need to post a picture of the starting kit.

I don't have to build it myself, right? I mean, it's my car, so I'm good...

Im still pretty new to it and I think I might be in over my head

Should we all build the same car, how far car we stray from the original model kit?

Mark, I would have never guessed that it was built in the late 80's with the color combo and such!! LOL!! I must say, it is Pretty detailed! Never seen the Moroso covers on a model before, pretty cool!

I would love to do it, but I don't even havE time to work on my REAL car, much less a fake one!

Scott, I think that the whole idea is to build them yourself. On the other hand that is a cool replica of your car.

Model cars, or real cars, all the same....
My philosophy: If you don't build it, yourself, it's NOT really YOURS, anyway!

I know- I was pretty shocked when I saw it. The dude who built it saw pics of my car and just did it- then sent me pics when he was done. He competes in model competitions with it in Europe and has done pretty well.

I also enjoy building model cars, but I haven't done one in years. I've got a few kits I purchased but haven't assembled as yet. Maybe this contest would be a good reason to do so.

I'd love to do it but can we wait till winter lol? I barely have enough time to get the real one tightened up!

I think it might be cool to make a requirement that we have to build our own cars. Then we can see how close we get to all the little details.

Scott, I have done the same thing. I see a car and I just want to build it. My recent project is the Reynolds Buick 70 GS stage 2 racecar that is slowly comming together. Wierd seems like all my projects scale and 1:1 are slowly comming together, maybe a pattern

I just picked up a 2nd kit for parts on my 79 z28 camaro I started building. I am also grafting some standard c6 exhaust to it. I thought about cannibalizing my Z06 model I built afew years ago for suspension and brakes but couldn't do it. When we decide on the rules I have a couple cars picked out.
