depends on how tall the guys up front are...it was usually the shorter guys got the back seats. Or sit sideways.

That can't be - a 1st gen has even more room than a 2nd gen? My 5'7"+ kid fits no issue, and we've had 2nd gens with 2 adults in the back a few times in the past few years and we survived w/o incident lol. I can't imagine a long trip through. The 2nd gen certainly has more room than gens 3-4-5.

I know that a 3rd n 4th gen there's little room, but with mine tore apart I was eye balling it after a few cold ones. Figure I'd ask the people with there cars together.

Well I'm 6'4" and rode in the back of my 68 a couple of times... I have the Arizen front seats which I had the passenger side adjusted forward so a bit more leg room. I recall it not being very comfortable thought a lot of that had to do with the fact that the stock seat itself isn't comfortable at all either.

Back in high school I had the only car amongst my friends and we fit 7 people in my 2nd Gen. We didn't care back then though and the guy in the trunk refused to do it again.

Think I might have it figured out. The 2 that have had the most to drink ill shove back there. Sense I don't mix booze n cars I know I won't be shoved back there

I had 4 adults in my 69 last weekend. It was not too bad, but the girl behind me (driver) had to swing her legs sideways since I push my seat back quite a bit. My 5 year old fits great though, and she's usually the only one back there.
