      Backordered T56???

I placed an order with American Powertrain for a complete T56 kit, for a 68 GTO, at the end of January. The guy on the phone, Matt, was very helpful and courteous. My bank was charged a couple days after I placed the order over the phone. Three weeks went by and no communication from American Powertrain. I called them and they told me they were back-ordered for about 3 weeks due to the holidays and high volume of orders. The said they would notify me via email with the status of my order. Totally understandable. Still no communication so I called them again today. The guy on the phone said he was sorry, he didn't know where in line my order was and that the shipping manager was out on lunch. He said he would have my sales rep call me. No phone call received yet.

I don't really have a problem with the tranny being on backorder. My problem is with the lack of communication from American Powertrain. I order a lot of stuff online and I always get emails notifying my of the status of my orders. i.e. Oakley sent me an email that they received my order, another one stating my order was processed and another notifying me that part of my order was shipped and another portion was backordered all within a 4 day span. Not too bad for a $200 order vs. almost $5K and the only communication received was a notice that my account had been charged.

Anyone else experience this, or am I just expecting too much????

I placed an order a couple weeks ago with American Powertrain as they had it advertised as "in stock" on the website, my card was charge immediately and the email confirmation didn't say anything about backorder. After some difficulty getting hold of them by email and phone I found out the same thing, backordered "behind about 100 others", so I cancelled the ordered and requested a refund which I believe has been issued. (After which I was asked to never order from them again... nice...) I wonder about the backorder as I found the transmission in stock at 4 other sellers.

I talked to them a few weeks ago about an order and the person was very direct with me that there was a substantial backord for the T56 mag. I figure it's just a good reason for me to hold on to my cash a little longer since I already have a working trans in the car now. I am a little surprised since summit showed they can ship on 3/13 when i checked today but I've had issues with summit in the past too.

Thanks for the replies. Not getting a good vibe. Are they one of the sponsors for this site? BTW still no communication from them.

Bummer, I have heard good things about them too and have talked with both Matt and Gray. Hopefully it all works out, I was planning on ordering a T56 from them.

Our transmission supply line is weak at the moment but increasing daily. Tremec is running behind on back orders. What is happening is we will get 50-60 transmissions on Monday lets say. Then by Thursday we are sold out and we may not get another load for 3-5 more days. We did however get very large order yesterday so it getting much better. Don't go by the website please call or shoot us an email and check stock. The website does not have a live inventory we have to manually update it. Which is why I am building a new one right now. The old one is CRAP. Hit the link below to get a sneak peek at the new one..

As far as no one replying we have 4 sales people we are trying to increase our staff. If you guys can't reach anybody you can me direct - 865-296-1188 or email [email protected]

Ive had nothing but good things to say about josh and the crew over there. A stand up guy and very honest. He is the manager and his extension is 107. Give him a call.

Update: I was contacted by Matt and Gray. Thanks! They're having some difficulties keeping up with demand but are making changes to improve the situation. Some issues are out of their hands and others are unforseen bumps that came with growth. I totally understand both and accept the situation. It's good to hear and see that they are concerned and value their customers.
Also, Thanks to this forum for providing a medium thru which we were able to communicate and provide a positive outcome for both parties. Looking forward to getting my T56 kit from American Powertrain.

agto8u, any updates on receiving your T56 and installation? Very interested to read your experience and issues with T56 installation. I have a 68GTO convertible that I plan to switch from 4spd to T56.

I would have never guessed 60 T-56 Magnums would sell in a matter of a couple days. I just can't imagine the demand being that high considering so many people sell them.

FWIW....Summit Racing will price match anyone. They will even drop ship from Tremec.
