      Gen III ECM's

I have a gen III LQ4 6.0l out of a truck, Its now stroked with L92 heads and a LS3 Intake. When I bought the motor it came with the original ecm. I was trying to plan the layout of all the wiring and thought it would be nice to mount the ECM in the blower motor box since its now gutted and I will be running a vintage air unit.

      So here are the questions.
      1. Where are you guys locating the ecm ? I'd like to not place it in sight
      2. Since the truck ecm is gigantic is there another LS1 ecm that is smaller ?
      3. A friend has an ecm for a Trail blazer that is much smaller but that is a LS2 ... and I think a gen 4 58 tooth.

Switching reluctor wheels is not an option.

      Any thoughts ? .

By the way its going in a 69 camaro.

I would not place it too far out of reach as you never know when you may need to get to it again. I used the E67 unit which is not that large and placed it under the dash behind the stereo and that works because a lot of wires need to go through this unit and having it closes to the fuse box works for me.

So if your running a E67 I would assume that you have a 58 tooth reluctor wheel ? Any one know what ECM options there are for 24 tooth setups ?

If you're using cable TB, you're probably going to be restricted to the 411 style ecu.
I tucked mine forward of the drivers side wheel well, behind the battery.

Hey Vince... are you running auto or manual trans? You can run the 06 Trailblazer SS and 05-06 GTO ECM which is a E40 and it operates a 24x system. Depending on what trans you are running you may need a TCM as well. Since your running the LS3 intake you can easily run a DBW throttle body. You can PM me if you want to and we can build your harness for you. Hope this helps!

I have done some digging and found some answers that have led to more questions any info anyone can provide to any of the questions is greatly appreciated., and please let me know if I am wrong or missed something.

A little more about the car, I am running a t-56 so I shouldn't need anything in the way of trans controller. The car will be used for cruising and some weekend events road course, drag, and auto x . I want to be able to go long distances so Cruise control would be nice... but not a necessary. I tend to try and balance my decisions out by comparing cost vs desire. So with that I am weighing all the ecm drive by wire and drive by cable options
I have a 411 ECM and from what I have read it will run both DBW and DBC throttle bodies, so does making the switch to a E40 get me anything other than a smaller easier to package ECM?
      DBW Pro's
      1. DBW cleaner install
      2. DBW cleaner cruise control
      DBW Cons
      1. Cost / complexity

      ECM 411 Pros
      1. Already have one
      2. Seems widely understood by tuners
      ECM 411 Cons
      1. Size
      2. Only works with specific TAC and pedal?

      E40 ECM Pros
      1. Smaller size
      ECM 40 Cons
      1. Cost ?
      2. What specific DBW components does it need and at what cost ?

      ECM411 DBW Costs
00-02 Truck TAC - $273 GM12574221 on GMparts giant Haven't been able to find a used one
00-02 Accel Pedal ~75 Anyone know a part # or price for this ? Found one on ebay for an 05 but
don’t know If the years matter
      OR
      97-04 Vette TAC $500 Part # 12565643 & Tac 12578953 on Ebay
      97-04 Pedal Asm
      OR
Lokar $325 From jegs not sure if this will work with 411 computer or maybe need to go to E40 ?
LS3 Electronic Throttle body $200 Not sure if you can use car or if it needs to be truck to work with ECM ?

      Cable Option
4 bolt Throttle body ~$200 for CNC 92mm
Pedal $80 For Cross ram or 6 cylinder pedal
Dakota Digital $245 Cruise control setup
Cut to length Lokar cable ~75 from Jegs

So it looks like 600 for the cable route with cruise and 400 with out. And $548 for the electronic version with the big question of will a stock 90 mm feed my 408 ? As an electric 100mm is closer to $350

Thanks in advance for your help
