    1. Wheel and Tire combo, ideas?

Hello, after much reading and searching I need some conclusive perspectives here.

On one hand, people say the best tires for handling are low profile tires. Thus people run 17-18" wheels. Less side wall flex which aids in handling and also alows for bigger brakes (13-14") for stopping power of our heavy cars.

On the other hand however, F1 Cars are the best handling cars in the world and they run 13" wheels with large side walls, and ofcourse they do not need large brakes given they weigh less than 600kg.

Also going to a larger wheel, means more rotating mass to deal with, and thus in a light car, that in a way counteracts the added 'flex' benefit.

      Now

I have read that it is the 'profile' of the tire that matters and F1 cars run low profile tires. The only reason they have a larger side wall is because the aspect ratio. There tires are 15" wide so a 40 aspect ratio (40%) side wall to the 15" width, it ends up large. So they say that the physical larger side wall is not relivant because the actual aspect ratio is the same as that on 18" wheels that look skinny.

Now I am getting a Ford GT40 built out of Carbon Fiber. The car weighs 743kg without any added changes in full trim (air conditioning etc) After I stiffen the Chassis up, the car may climb up to 800-850kg. Im giving it 900kg max.

Given the GT40 is that light (near half as much as our Mopars/Mustangs/Chevies/Pontiacs (and all else inbetween), it clearly does not need 17-18" wheels to get 13-14" brakes. Also, because I am getting Carbon brakes for the car, it will be another 30% or so increase stopping power over alloy brakes. So 15" wheels for a car below 900 kg runing carbon brakes is MORE than big enough for the size of brake I would need under it. Having the 15" wheel will also result in less rotating mass over the 17-18" option that allows for brake sizes I will never need.

So can some elaboration be given here?

Basically the GT40 looks great with 15" wheels but it also looks great with 17-18" wheels (looks more like the GT then). What would actually be the better option for a car that weighs under 900kg?

Also where can I get michelin/Pireli tires, low profile, at around 295-335 wide for 15" wheels. Hoosiers offer large 60 aspect ratio on there 300+ wide tires, so I need a 40 (low profile) aspect ratio for a 15" wheel at least 295mm wide.

      Thanks!
