      6spd Tremec ?

      Hello everyone.
I Purchased a 1970 Nova a couple of months ago for the purpose of having a nice street cruiser that I could drag race here and there. It currently has a B.B 427 bored and stroked to a 468 solid roller engine making good power at 3000-7500 rpm , a M22 4spd , 4.11 12 bolt and stock 14" rims 26" dia. tires. You can tell the previous owners were building it for drag racing.

I would like to get the rpms down for street driving. I need advice on how to do that . I priced out the Tremec 6spd at about $4200.00 plus a new clutch disc shipped. That is costly for me... Any idea how much I could sell my M22 with bell housing and my Verti Gate shifter for?

Also, If I were to just change the rear gears to 3.55 would it drive well with the current engine set up?
      Automatic overdrive set up? cost?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rear gear depends on what 1st gear you get in the TX, because 6th will drop the RPM to nothing with just about any rear gear. You could keep the 4.11's.

An automatic is going to be Cheaper than Manual if you buy new. A built 200R-4 setup with a 3500 stall torque converter will likely be quicker than any manual you put in and about 1/2 as much and would work great with 3.55 gears.

I can tell you that I had 3.27 in my Camaro (or somewhere close) and it still screamed with the 4 speed. You can't beat the feel, or drivability of a 5 or 6 speed, but like you said its costly. With a carb'd engine I would just keep your 4.11. That is what I have in mine.

There is a considerable cost in volved with swapping, but worth it to me. I actually found an LT1 T56 on CL for $100 and bought a kit from Weirs. Still had plenty in the budget for a re-build. Had to buy an electronic speedo (could have bought a converter). I don't disagree with an auto being faster, I just like a stick in my street car.
