      68 Camaro Front Clip

      Hey guys, I am currently working on my 68 camaro project and I am at the point of replacing the front clip. Does anyone have any recomendations on the best clip out there, I am looking for the best combination of handling and ride quality. I don't know if it matters, but this car will be getting a turbocharged LSX 427 with a 6 speed manual and I am also not looking to lower it more than 2 inches. Thanks.

      Welcome to the board!

      It has been debated here many times, but try to figure out exactly what you want to fit the car with i.e. wheel/tires, brakes, suspension, steering, etc. There are some unbelievable aftermarket subframes on the market that acheive incredible performance besides looking great! Another factor to consider is your budget and what you will do with the car most (drive back and forth to work, weekend cruises, autocross, road race, drag race, long distance hauls/Power Tour).

      Thanks for the reply, I did not consider most of these thing when posting, but I am planning on using the car mostly for weekend cruises and long distance hauls with the occasional trip to the drag strip and autocross track. I will likely visit the drag strip quite a bit more than the autocross track, but this will be mostly for fun with some grudge racing and maybe a little bit of bracket racing. I am mainly looking for a comfortable ride with the best handling I can get.

      As far as wheels and tires, I have not done much research, but I am looking at going with the widest setup possible with out having to do extensive modifications to the body. On the front I would be willing to modify the inner fender or purchase inner fenders that would accomidate a larger tire/wheel combo, on the back I am trying to stay away from any tubbing or modification to the fender. On a side note though I don't want a larger tire in the front than in the back, I don't know if this is possible without atleast mini-tubbing the back of the car.

      For budjet's sake I am trying to keep it under the 5000-5500 for a complete front sub frame and suspension/steering setup, is this reasonable, I would be willing to spend more if there was something necessary that would greatly improve the ride quality or handeling of the car. I will also be looking at probably a 4-link bolt in rear suspension setup with a ford 9" in the future, but this will be my last step.

      I wouldn't say this is a no expense spared project, but I want to do every thing right and I am planning on spending 30-35k on the complete restoration and upgrades. I currently have the car torn down and ready to get soda blasted, I will try and post some pictures later this evening when I get home.

      By that description you sound alot like our common customer and what we design our product around.

      If you are going to run standard rear wheel tubs you should be fine with updating/upgrading the suspension, brakes and steering on your stock subframe which also will allow for decent size wheels up front that wont make the rears seem narrow.

      If you utilize your stock subframe and update it as described above you should be able to come in well below your budget. We have a great rear suspension that comes with a Strange 9" for 67-81 Camaro/Firebirds. Here is a link to a PT member who installed one in his 73 Firebird:

      I would look into the Ride tech tru.turn frt. set up.Lets U run a 10 wheel on a stock frt. sub frame. and their 4-bar 4link system is as good as it gets(Both can be installed at home ) .Good Luck Scott Mock Ride tech Dealer.

      Be careful about the 30-35k budget. Spend wisely. These cars will swallow that money up. You could potentially have half of that into the turbo LSX by the time you're ready to fire it up. By the time that cars with an aftermarket subframe, link rear suspension, and LS engine are sitting on the ground with wheels, tires, and brakes, they can easily have 35K plus in parts.

      Dump in big dollars for a complete subframe OR use stock one, re-enforce things well and add in ridetech Tru-Turn, Throw in some double or triple adj Coil overs from ridetech or go for broke and use Shock Waves, I also agree about the 4 link as its an easy install, talk to Frank at Prodigy about mini tubs and the 4 link.
      Do 10 in wheels all around, Corvette brakes with help from Kore3, It just fits with minimal cutting and maximum performance.
      Nothing against the sub manufacturers but some of us cant afford stuff like that,,, AND suspension and and brakes,,,Tru-Turn fixes specific issues with little cutting/mods.

      Yup, I tried to put together a budjet the other night and I was already pushing 30k and did not have a good idea of how I was going to do the interior. I also had not factored in wheels and tires or the final body work and paint. I figure if I can get at least every thing done but interior and paint for the 30-35k, I can take some time doing the interior and paint. I hope it is worth more than I have in it in the end, but I never really plan on getting rid of it so I guess it dosent matter too much. I just hope I can save enough to start working on an SS/RS I have for my dad, once this one is mostly complete.
