      Front col over conversion

Could someone explain the difference between using a true coil over versus the QA1 coil overs that maintain the stock upper coil spring pocket? DSE sells the conversion kit but is it reallt necessary to use a new mount for streeet use?

      Thanks for all reply's

Good question. I was also wondering if I could just use the QA1 coilover set, HAL-GMP14 (small block), or HAL-GMP13 (big block), @ Summit Racing that replaces the stock shock/spring in a 67-69 Camaro.

One advantage of a true coilover is a larger choice of spring rate and larger choice of shocks. The DSE kit also relocates the mounting holes sort of like the Guldstrand mod. It does not change the geometry as much as the Guldstrand mod.

One concern I would have with the QA1 setup is where if mounts to the lower control arm. When you convert with QA1s all the weight and stresses of the front are on only four bolts, two per lower. That is a concern to me. I would beef up the lower for some safety.

I have ordered LCA that will accept coil overs. The DSE kits includes a plate for this as well.

Then in boils down to larger shock and spring choice as well as a geometry change. However, lowering your car with springs will change the geometry in a good way on a first gen.
