      Oops! Big time!

      This is a video of my friend Mark and his Spitfire at Savannah last week.

      Mark and I both built our original 66 Shelby GT350 together. This was the car that got us both started in Vintage Racing.

      Mark always liked British cars and bought this Spitfire with racing history and I bought the Datsun 510 with racing history that I eventually raced. We both found that the small bore cars were both more fun to race than the big bore Shelby. After we both bought our specific race cars we decided so sell the Shelby and that was that!

      Mark put the Spitfire in a barrel roll at Savannah last week. Below is the video. He is fine however the car is AFU!

      You cannot hear in this video but you can in the original video that there is a big "POP" just he turns right and then the cars starts to slide. The rear-end is torn all to Hell with the half shaft pulled out and broken. Who know's what happened but this was the results!!!

      WOW! Glad he was ok, and looks like the cage and seat / restraints did their job!

      Wow! Glad he was OK. His restraints did a great job as it looked like he didnt move around all that much during all that.
      I am not useless, I can still be used as a bad example!

      Left rear tire cut down? It looked to be an all of a sudden event....it went sideways quick and without warning.
      Glad that he was OK and all of the Safety stuff did it's job.
      1970 RS/SS350 139K on the clock:
      89 TPI motor w/ 1pc rear seal coupled to a Viper T56 via Mcleod's modular bellhousing w/ hydraulic T/O bearing from the Viper, 12 bolt rear w/ 3.73 gearing, SC&C upper control arms, factory lowers with Delalums, C5 brakes at all four corners, Front Wheels 17x8's with Sumi 255/40/17 and Rear Wheels 17x9's with Sumi 275/40/17.

      I didnt read what you posted and watched it first. WOW that really came out of now where, kinda startled me.
      I'm glad he's ok. Xs2 on the restraints and cage.

      Is he planning on rebuilding it?

      I think I'd be giving my cage builder a big hug.
      Did the car behind him have any video? Perhaps there are some clues to be found.

      Dang, glad he's ok. Looks like the cage held up great! Shows the importance of playing it safe with adequate safety equipment, when it goes wrong, it can go really wrong.

      That's EXACTLY why I posted this video for all to see!

      Mark and I have been vintage racing for over 12 years with spins, some agricultural racing and broken parts but never an accident. ALL the safety equipment performed properly and he was not hurt.

      Cars can be fixed and replaced. Bodies cannot!

      It happens in a split second. Just ask Stacy at least she did not roll her car!
