      OER vs. GOODMARK

      Hey guys, i am starting to buy 1/4 panels and i was wondering if anyone can tell me which of these companies makes the better 1/4 or if they are both about the same?

      I was looking at this website http://www.mikescustomcars.com/camarorestore.htm
      and I called and talked to a guy who seemed pretty knowledgable and he basically said that both have thier good and bad qualities and he has used them both.

      OER is $299
      Goodmark is $399

      I know you get what you pay for so i wanted to see what everyone else has used and what they thought about it.

      I use all Classic industries metal and I have been very pleased. I replaced my rear driver quarter 2 years ago and it only took a little over 2 hours and I had it all spot welded into place.
      The rear quarter was $79.00

      Only 2 hours?? Yikes Adam that sounds pretty fast to me!
      Just FYI, when I tried to buy a full quarter at Classic a month or so ago, they weren't selling. They said that they were re-tooling. I picked up an 80% piece from Goodmark. (Classic doesn't seem to have 80% quarters either)

      All the pics in that link I sent are the same day after I got out of work. Got home from work. Set quarter on car. Traced. Cut out junk quarter. Placed new quarter up and TACH welded. Not fully welded but the entire thing was tach welded as you can see in those pics. Only a little over 2 hours.

      We always use goodmark for replacement sheet metal....not one problem yet!

      Camaroboy, how hard was it to "hide" the line where you cut & welded. My fear is that i would not be able to make it look good where with a full 1/4 it seems easier hide the welds.

      Travis, thanks for the info about goodmark, where are you in Arkansas ? I lived in Bentonville for most of my life and now I am only a couple of hours away in Springfield, Mo.

      I also have heard that alot of panels are on backorder right now, now i know why

      I butt welded the panel and thats how I do every panel I weld into a car. *insert butt joke here*
      I used body hammers and anvils to get it as straight as possible. Tach- tach-tach to avoid warping the metal. After it was as smooth as possible I used a grinder to knock the welds level. After that I apply fiberglass directly to metal. Following that is any bondo product of your choice. Then like the rest of my car. Epoxy primered eventually.
      EDIT: We will be starting the rear quarters on my girlfriends 67 Mustang very soon. Bought those from Michigan Depot and I will let everyone know how well they go in.

      Oh that place where I got my girlfriends rear quarters for her mustang is also known as NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT. There are a couple around. 1 in florida, michigan, and california.
      You are right. A full quarter would be easier to hide any of the body lines and if you have the extra money that is the way to go.

      All the full quarters are made by OER. The 67 / 68s were bad, the right was real bad in the door jam area. I talked to my contact at OER a couple days ago, 300 back ordered. They expect them in November.

      If you can, I highly suggest waiting for full panels as opposed to the repair panels. The seem is not ony hard to hide on a high end car, it is in a horrible spot. Finish work on a factory type full panle is just 16" at the sail panel, and some spot welds. However, repair panels are only $100, so that might make a decision

      Even the ones that are sold by Goodmark? I would have guessed that they would be from the same tooling, and supplier, but never knew for certain. We are putting full qtrs on a 70 right now, should know fitment issues in the next two or three days, but in the white, they look pretty damn nice. Bought from Classic, OER parts.

      All the full quarters, at least for first gens, are made by OER. Others may say different, but all full quarters for firts gens are built by OER. Share tooling, no hardly.

      installed goodmark on my 69 camaro on passenger side.was very pleased except where the top edge of the tunk meets the panel across the bottom of the window.gap was a little wide. just added alittle weld to fill .

      Just a little more info on the OER second gen quarter install. Everything is spot-welded into place now. There were several areas of concern, mostly in the rear areas. It took quite a bit of effort to blend the rear section of the qtrs into the new rear panel, they had to work quite a bit to get several sections to mate good enough to spot weld. Also, the drop contour that follows the back edge of the trunk lid was the wrong curvature on the passenger side (i.e. the section where it drops down towards the taillights. The driver side was good, but the other side needed a cut and re-from to get the right shape. Trunk lid was decent, but needed a bit of a tug on the front outer corners to line up with the qtr panel lines. The rear panel is pretty bad on the top edge, i.e. where the trunk lid comes down to meet it. It is going to take some plastic to make it straight, it is wavy as anything. Trunk floor and side drop-offs all fit pretty decent.

      Overall, not terribly bad, but I am glad I brought it to a body shop, I would have struggled with getting things to fit properly, to say the least. Not as easy as they lead you to believe in the magazines...
