      Hydroboost Hell

We are having serious cavitation issues with a hydroboost system that is installed on a 1972 Chevelle. The car was recently upgraded with a March serpentine system which utilizes the GM II mini PS pump. We have read that this pump may have compatibilities with a hydroboost system so we have checked all of the line sizes and ended up changing the return line from the reservoir to a 1/2" line and increasing the size of the reservoir. We then carefully bleed the system with the car off and then go out for a drive. Everything is fine for 10 min or so and then we get the death purr and the system starts to cavitate. Where the hell is the air coming from?? Any ideas?? No leaking lines anywhere in the system..

Relax - we will get your scenario straightened right out ;)

Call our tech department tomorrow and Jim will get you straightened right out:

This scenario is typically a case of WAY too much PS pump flow combined with poor remote reservoir designs feeding the PS pump to cause cavitation.

You have indeed hit it right on the nail head by stating "pump cavitation" issues... Very probably just a matter of swapping out your PS pump output fitting to reduce pump flow (quick, fast, cheap, and easy!)

^^ I wouldn't let that change your mind. I just installed my new Hydroboost and have no problems at all. Worth every penny I spent.

Nothing wrong with Hydroboost's mate, countless OEM's use them too so don't let one isolated issue put you off. I've found Paul @ Hydatech a useful, knowledgeable vendor and that's without even spending a single cent with him. (yet)

The summary to the original Classic Car Studio post was excessive flow from the March PS pump. The system ran well for them with upon initial installation with a different pump arrangement. The system dynamics were changed when they swapped in the March serpentine system (with the replacement mini pump that was flowing too aggressively). Our guy Jim coached them into reducing pump flow back down to standard levels and all is well.

Thanks to Tom and Chris for the good word
