need help setting engine angle. LS1 in a 1st gen

ok, I have been reading up and i know i need about a 2.5 degree down angle on the tranny and a 2.5 degree up angle on the rear yoke to prevent drive line vibrations. my question is what do i reference the angle to?

I was planning to put the car on stands and get the front frame rail (under the floor pans) perfectly level and then giving the engine the 2.5* down.

The rear is still in the building phase so it will come later.

      anyone got a better idea?

      thanks
      chris

I have always referenced it to the framerail (reward part of the sub-frame) being perp to the plain of the earth..... just as you have described.

That is how I did it for the LSx engine install kit we have. From there it can be fine tuned at the transmission mount to set final shaft/pinion angles. That way, you start in a known 'window' so that any adjustment isnt too far either way from your start point.
