      2012 Gumball 3000

Have we had anyone from the forums run in the Gumball before? I just put in my application to see if I can get picked up for it. If I do, I'm going to run the '67 Chevelle. I've always wanted to do this thing... might as well go for it now!

Not for nothing, but if you partake. Spend the money on a good scanner. You may not be able to dial in all the encrypted digital channels for specific Sheriffs Offices, P.D.'s, or Highway Patrols, but odds are you will be able to pick up some of the "Intercity" and "PSAP" mutual aid channels from metro area to metro area. These mutual aid tachs are used for one agency to quickly share info to another agencie over a shared radio channel. When they set up the roadblock in Orlando on I-4 a couple years ago for a road rally originating in Miami, Chatter was pretty heavy. Never used it, but the select by zip-code and auto GPS switching look like cool features on the Uniden Home Patrol. Also if you go, crossreference your route with Radioreference.com to see which agencies you can listen to.

Good information, I'll look into it if I get that far. That's the only thing that scares me about the entire trip. It seems in when they run in other places in the world, you can pay off the cops and stay out of jail. In the US, you'll be made an example of. I seem to have good luck though, haven't been pulled over since I was 17... that was a Monte Carlo, Z/28 and C5 Corvette ago. hahaha
