      A/C fittings

Are the red and blue fittings special a/c fittings or just regular hose fittings?

The reason I am asking is the VA kit supplied extensions and o-rings.

picture is from DSE's website in projects Bridget's Nova

Those look like AN fittings for the heater hoses (not a/c lines). Lots of companies sell an fittings and hoses. These would be fine for the heater lines but would leak on the refrigerant lines.

Funny you posted this pic, I have the same pic saved and I was going to call DSE this week and find out what those fittings were. I thought they looked like AN fittings, but I was under the impression you had to use O ring fittings.

Here are the fittings I found, (that I hope will work) they said you use the supplied o-ring from VA kit.l I tried to call DSE and told me two different things, first they cut the fitting off the Heater core and brazed a flare on. Then I called back and they said Russel makes a special fitting and I could not find that either. So this is what I found should be here in 2 days will post as soon as they arrive.

They look like they will work great, nice job.
I really like the way DSE has put the heater control valve under the dash.
I am in the process of installing a VA system in my Camaro.
I saw your thread and moved the heater control valve under the dash.
Cleans up the engine compartment quite well.
      Thanks for the thread.

did you loop the hoses to make them easier to connect, or was there another reason? will the flare conversion only work for the water lines? what do you plan to run for the ac that matches your black aeroquip lines? still deciding how im going to run mine.

Yes I looped them to make it easier to install. I will use the vintage air a/c lines... crimp-able ones they sell.

Well, I know that I am dredging up a three-year-old thread, but it was actually one of the first ones that I ever subscribed to and I thought that it would be pretty cool to steal the idea for my build. Well, the time has finally come, but I have to say, I am BUMMED! Not sure what is different about my situation and Tim's, but the -10 AN hose ends that I just received to attach to the evaporator case do NOT feel like they are the same threads as the Vintage Air fittings that are brazed on. They thread on for not even one revolution and then that's it. That's usually what happens when the pitch is different between the two pieces, I think. I'm not feeling like forcing it right at the moment.... I was planning on using Fragola Series 8000 Push-Lite fittings, but the AN side should be industry standard.

It was already getting sketchy enough with the "o-ring-to-flare" adapters, as I think those are probably more for 45* flare than 37* like AN, but I hoped that would be close enough to still seal successfully. The amount of disassembly that would be required in order to sweat off the existing fittings and braze on something more appropriate for AN plumbing is waaay beyond my ability or desire....

So I say again, I'm bummed! I guess I just wanted to give anyone else who might be planning this for down the road a head's up to make sure that you check it out thoroughly ahead of time and hopefully you won't run in to the same problem.

Steve the flare adapters that I have we're 37 deg. What brand did you purchase?

      A/C fittings

      Hey, Tim:

The ones I got were from eBay, but that's the least of my problems. There is no way that the -10 AN fitting is going to thread on to that nipple on the VA evaporator. I saw that you had Redhorse hose ends in your pictures, but I would think that any AN fitting is going to use the same thread; not sure how you got yours to work but more power to you....

      Steve,

What I did was I used the VA aluminum hardline and just cut it and had a friend tig on ends. I don't have pics but it's pretty straight forward.

We had adapters made to go from o-ring to AN style fittings for our custom VA installs. I would also recommend going with the EZ-clip hose & fittings for your A/C lines. Much easier to route, will make a much tighter bend, and you can install the fittings with the hose in the car. Let me know if you need info or have questions.
