      Custom Shaker Air Cleaner

I was wanting to cut the back out of the shaker on my trans am
and put a air filter there, and do away with the filter inside the shaker

BUT I don't know what would work better as a main air filter
I have seen people make air filters for cars out of carbon screen and foam
      before

but which will let air flow better and catch all the dust????

I've got a Blockers Performance functional shaker kit and its pretty awesome. Just put in the fiberglass insert and it will fit a K&N square filter level to the ground.

Doesn't really make a difference though, I think one person I know of tested cut vs. uncut shakers and it was like 1hp if that.

I wouldn't go through that much trouble. Just open up the backside and run a good K&N filter. The filter lids have been shown to disrupt airflow so you may want to avoid those.
