      '06 5.3

ok, first and foremost, let me say that i know absolutely nothing about these modern motors. now thats out of the way, i had a friend call tonight who has a friend storing an engine at his shop. This friend is out of money and looking to unload it. it is a low miles "06 5.3 with ls3 heads, some kind of fairly hot cam, billet chain, and has been converted to run a carb... MSD ignition and a victor jr intake... I have been considering an LSx swap anyway, and this just got thrown at me tonight.... I guess what im asking is.... Jump on it b/c its cheap? or wait and do a conversion after ive dont all my own investigation into such?? I know that i havent given that much information but can somebody give a shot in the dark as to what its worth? Thanks in advance

Also, what are the reasons pro/con to convert a lsx to run a carb? (scratching head)... Don't that kinda defeat the whole purpose?

How cheap is it? You can make nice power with a 5.3. I would check into the LS3 heads though, from what I know, the 5.3 motors don't have enough bore for those heads to be effective. As for running an LSx motor with a carb, you are still benefiting from advancements in head design over older SBC's.

Less than $1000. I'm going to look at it this afternoon and will find out more.

The MSD spark unit and intake alone goes for $700. But I'm with Stephen, I dont think you can run those heads with the 5.3 bore.
Btw, go over to LS1tech swap page. You'll find some really big hp numbers with carbed motors.

Stephen and Gary are right.... You cant run the LS3 heads on a stock 5.3 The 6.0 is the smallest engine the LS3 heads can be ran on. A carbed LS will still be a improvement of a Gen 1 motor, but nothing compares to the benefits of keeping them fuel injected!

Having said this..... based on the info shared... looks like a good buy.

If you get it and it has ls3 heads I might buy them off of you. I have an lq4 and have a set of cathedral port heads but your intake may not work with them if it has the rectangular ports.
