Glad the hear you are going to run it off the battery! Computers ability to "think" accurately is dependent on how clean it's voltage and current supply are. The further away from the battery you get the less conditioned the power is and the more succeptable to power not being stable. A good example is your dash lights dimming when your high powered stereo gets turned up and you source amp power from the fuse block.
