2nd Gen F-Body Side Mirror Upgrades?

Looking to see what others have done on 2nd Gen F-Bodies for side mirrors, like C5 Vette or maybe 90's Buick Lesabre's. I do not have any side mirrors yet, so starting with a clean slate (body work not done yet either, so mods to door are okay).

What did it take to mount mirrors to door? Custom brackets? Grind/file on base to fit door curves? Do the bases cover the stock mount holes?

What did it take to wire them up for the power and heat options? My AAW harness has a number of extra circuits, ranging from 15-30 amps, so electrical not an issue. What control knob was used? Factory or aftermarket?

I can get new power and heated Buick mirrors for about $110/set, but would still need to get the wiring and control stuff. Might be best to visit the local bone yard first to try to get everything...

Whatever you decide to try, go to the boneyard and just get one to test. I had the same ideas as yourself, The C5 vette mirrors just don't blend right with the lines on the second gen. I bought a brand new pair through GM before deciding this, could have saved a lot of cash. When I went to fit them up they really extend too far from the door, also if you could remove the small pedestal extension on them they would work and look better. The Buick units look like a good fit, kinda like oversized versions of the stock second gen mirror. The problem is they"are" oversized versions and when next to the car seem very out of proportion. Still working it out for mine so no real help here other than what I've tried and didn't like.

Sounds like the local Pick 'n' Pull will be the way to go. I am making a list of a number of items to search for, will check all cars that have round or bullet-style door-mounted mirrors to see what I can work with. Will make sure I get all wiring too! Thanks Tommy.

I saw a newer miata not too long ago I thought might work, maybe look for one of them. I hate the small mirrors but proportion matters aesthetically.
