starter issues

ok i have only had this car for a very short while and went to start it today and it sounded like the starter went out. It spun but wasnt cranking the motor so i jacked it up to replace it and found this under the car. Well dont feel like replacing with out figuring out why this happened in the first place.

Based on the way it broke, I'd say low quality part (versus something mechanical you need to fix). Replace it and you should be fine. I've had good luck with Jeg's brand mini starters- they're cheap and work really well- at least they have for me.
