Hmm, no mention of actual verification that it's a real Shelby. 'Cause you know how hard it is to get a licence plate ring that says "Shelby Motors" on it.

Found! Rare collector car in my neighbors driveway. Called a tow truck, sending it to the auction this week!

I asked a pal of mine (who happened to pen the Shelby Registry) about this car. This is what he said:

The car, as the story said, was basically found in the place where it is said to have been found. But while it IS a red GT350H (one of about 59 red Hertz cars), it NEVER had white stripes as is claimed. Those were added when the car was painted in 1984 or 1985. Back then, it was commonplace to deny any car's connection to the rental fleet as it somehow stigmatized the car. Just after that time, it began to flip-flop and now the Hertz cars are considered more desirable than the "non-Hertz" cars. If the Texas attorney general's office is expecting to get $2,900,000 for the car, I think their expectations are high by about a factor of 2. The car may be a survivor of sorts, but it's not a survivor of 1966...it's a survivor of 1985. It's not like the car is original, just unused.

So, it's truly something special- a factory RED GT350H!

So, take off the stripes and it's completely original red GT350H? Still a pretty good find.

      Who said $2.9m?

"The Texas attorney general's office is expecting to get around $200,000."
