      79 Camaro in Iowa

      Hello,

New member from Iowa here. I'm doing a frame off restoration on my 1979 Camaro I purchased late last year - I included a picture of the car the day I brought it home. It's a solid East Coast car with zero rust, just been through too many owners that took more apart and lost interest. Story goes that is has been off the road since 1989, I have the original sheet metal and not much else! There will be lots of custom billet aluminum, mainly in the interior and under the hood. I have been designing solid model parts for the car since I bought it!

I look forward to spending time on this board for tips and ideas, sharing what I know, and making new friends! I read the posts concerning screen names with the new trend going to using your real name, so that's what I did!

      George

Thanks for the welcome Chad! What year Camaro do you have? I've always been a rubber noser, I've owned quite a few over the years.

I have a 78 right now. I have had many different ones over the years from 67 to 89 though.

Clear Lake is almost as far of a drive as it is to get to Chicago from where I live (transplanted in 2006). Is there much of a car cruise scene in Clear Lake?

You'll see stuff from time to time when the weather is nice, but the first weekendend in August we have a 2 day cruise and show, last year we had around 700 for the cruise and about 350 for the show. I usually head to the car craft show in St. Paul in July to get my big fix for the year.
