2nd Gen F-Body Third Brake Light

I have a 1970 Fuirebird Formula and want to add a third brake light in the rear package tray (window) for safety as I drive this car alot.

Has anyone installed one? If so where did you purchase it (model and store) and did you need any special wiring or can you splice right into one iof the taillight brake lights?

      Thanks.

Splice in at the brake light switch.

IIRC the Firebird uses the same filament for both brake and signal. To avoid the 3rd brake from flashing with one of the signals in that case, you need to connect to the brake wire between the switch and the steering column/turn signal switch.

You can use 3rd brake lights from other vehicles. I used an LED 3rd brake light from a Safari van on my Datsun. This is an external mount 3rd brake light, but it suits my car well.

^ +1 on the wiring. I learned that one the hard way. I used the 3rd brake light from a new GTO in my Camaro. It's LED & mounts on the package tray.
