      Super Chevy Atlanta

      Hey guys,

I don't post often, more of a read and learn kinda member. Anyways, my question is - Did anyone attend the recent Super Chevy event in Commerce this past weekend and share in my disappointment? I thought this was one of the worst events I have ever been to. For starters, the car show portion was horrible. I understand there were some weather concerns but that should not have changed it that much. There was a complete lack of cars of any nature wether it be pro-touring or just originals. That makes me wonder if it is something deeper. The Nitro Coupes only had six cars to fill the eight car field which stinks. There were plenty of vendors but it did not appear as if they were doing anything.

Super Chevy events have always been top notch. I was just curious if anyone else around the country is seeing the same thing at different events or if it just me. My personal feeling is that a change is needed. Maybe a push to get more of what I consider real world driven cars there and not place so much focus on awards and judging. The full on show cars will always be neccesary as they give the level that some shoot for. I just think there are more people that are willing to attend and look at the kind of driven cars you see on this sight.

Let me know your feelings and tell me if I am totally off base.

      Thanks, Mark

I didn't go due to prior commitments. I wanted to, but if I had the time I don't know that I would have gone because of the price.

I wonder what affect the Hot Rod Power Tour had on the event?

69rs - I feel that is hurting as much as anything. $45 to register a car and $22 for each passenger is a bit pricey. Not to mention every spectator that walked through the gate. I was going to mention that in the original I just didn't want people to think I was whining about money.

rocketrod - I think that had some effect as far as the pro-touring crowd but the other groups didn't have any participation. That struck me as odd.

Another thing, I have never seen the parking lot as empty as it was on Sunday. It has been fuller for a regular Sat night bracket race. I think that goes back to $22 for everyone walking through the gate.

There were also a few cars stolen from the spectator lot on Sunday; a couple Monte Carlo SS's were among the missing. Here's the thread - http://www.montecarloss.com/ubb/ulti...;f=19;t=009211 As of yet, Super Chevy has not done anything to help the owners out, except pass the buck along to the state police theft bureau. They're quick to take your money at the gates though!

The local first Saturday cruise-in I attend was down on participnts slightly at about 110 vs. 150+ normally. I figured that was due to Super Chevy, but maybe the HRPT affected it too.

I have attended the Gainesville Super chevy show for the last few years and probably will not go back this year. They charge spectators around $25.00 to get in and as you mentioned, not much to see.

There are too many great events around (many are free) to spend $25.00 to see what amounts to a local saturday night cruise in.
The racing is good and always enjoyable... That event here seems to be more race driven. -Jolt
