Thought I'd share some music I've been working on lately.



The thing that I enjoy nearly as much as cars is music. I'm currently taking classes through Berklee College of Music aimed at a degree in music production technology. As part of the class I'm taking now we have to produce a song within certain guidelines and use the materials and knowledge we gain in class to make it a quality production ready for distribution. I've still got a couple lessons left on this particular piece before it is a worthy candidate, but for all intensive purpouses it's complete.

Are the other songs yours?? If so good job and got anymore links to more of your music? I really like the song for your school project, I always liked techno music and now im getting more into acid jazz and some trip hop, Seems to be kind of a mix of the two, of course right now im wearing out my jack johnson and nine inch nails cd. Good job, I like it!

Sounds like some one needs to make a remix for "The hand that feeds"

Yes, the other tracks are mine. They are a bit old though. That is all the music I have online. I went through a stage where I "lost my mojo" and didn't produce anything for over a year.

Interesting. What software did you use? It's not really my genre of music, but it sounds like it is well done. I dabble with 'home studio' stuff myself, but I'm more into trying to record acoustic music. This gets expensive though because it takes good equipment and a good room to make a decent recording of an acoustic instrument.

Most of the tracks on my page were produced in FL Studio 4 with the use of my Korg Triton. My latest track, and all work here on out is produced in Logic Pro 7. I will be adding a Pro Tools 002R setup here in a couple weeks.

Thats not the kind of music I listen to (usually very heavy) but I think it sounded great. Well produced, easy to list to, and very relaxing.

Nice craftsmanship. Compositionally, my tastes tend to be quite a bit more experimental and complex, even in techno/electronica. With that in mind, there are things I think you might consider in the structuring of the materials that would add to the expressive potential. In my own works, I always try to find organic connections between system and structure and aesthetics. My general sense of the piece is that its minimalistic in nature but in fact has too much material for the mere 1'55" that it is. Actually, the piece presents melodic and harmonic materials at a faster rate than the rhythmic materials which creates a disparity in the progression of the work. Primarily I think this has to do with lace of development of the existing materials. Essentially, I think you have enough material to do a much longer piece, but the materials just need structured development.

Also, since you're already dwelling in the minimalist vein, consider using some of their developmental techniques and compositional techniques, like progressive linear pitch rhythmic alterations to evolve harmonic and rhythmic materials, and the ever popular hocketting technique. Take a listen to Reich's Electric Counterpoint or even some Eno stuff.

Anyway... don't listen to me... I've been in school too long, like you couldn't tell.

Dark I completely understand where you are coming from. The work previous to this most current is about a year and a half to 2 years old at this point. Long before any true progress in relation to theory and composition was acquired.

This latest track I'm not particularly thrilled with. I could easily go in and turn it into a piece at least 5 minutes long. Alass I had to fit the track within guidelines that my professor set down. Had to have 4 varients on a single drum pattern, some sort of moving pad or string, a melody and be longer than 1 minute but no longer than 2. So it was a constraining project.

With those constraints, I completely understand the difficulty of the project. That is a lot of stuff to do in less than 2 minutes without doing a up tempo piece.... heck, maybe that is an answer... write a 5 minute piece and then time shrink it down to 2 minutes. Kinda the opposite of Luigi Nono's music.
