      Hood weights

Ok I am curious as to normal weights for Hoods wether they are stock, Fiberglass, or carbon fiber. The reason I ask is I just weighed my stock aluminum hood. It alone weighs 26 lbs with the hinges and springs weighing another 4 lbs. Now I have not yet weighed the stock steel hood but I know it's heavy. But I am curious to see what everyone else has.

Going off memory, but stock 69 Nova hood was around 50 lbs. Don't remember what my fiberglass hood weighed.

I was actually curious about this also so thanks for starting this thread. I'd also be interested to know the difference in weight between an original/NOS hood and a repop hood for a first gen Camaro. I've often wondered if the weight savings that people quote for fiberglass/carbon fiber/aluminum hoods is versus an original steel hood or a repop steel hood.

Ok I weighed my hood and hinges. The hinges weighed 12 lbs with the springs. The hood surprisinly only weigh 65lbs. But that is a total of 77 lbs vs a total of 30 lbs for the aluminum hood and hinges. So a decent savings.

Great thread. So what's a light weight alternative for us second gen Trans Am guys who have that big stinking hole in our hood? I don't think I can afford one of Albert's carbon fiber creations but I'm sure that's the ultimate weight savings. Anyone make a FG one that works with hinges or are they all pin on?

Critter I think the old Mecham Macho TAs had a bolt on 'glass hood but used pins instead of latches on the front end.

I don't think my 78 hood weighs as much as John said his weighed as I can pick it up and move it around fairly easily by myself-now the 65 GTO hood is a WAY different story.
