      Confused on head choices

I decided to go through my 415 sbc this winter and would like to change some things to make more power. I would like to add a larger hydraulic roller cam and some better heads. I would like to spend about 1500. on heads but I have read alot conflicting choices of what would be the best choice. I'm shooting for about 550 at the flywheel. What would you guys recommend?

You will have to give a lot more info on your current engine setup for people to give you advise. Crank, rods, pistons, current heads, do you know your compression ratio etc.

In addition to your compression ratio, here's what you need to look for.

      Chamber Design:
Think LSx engines. Examine the chamber shape as it follows the valves. Look at the spark plug placement. These heads are very efficient, and a lot of manufacturers have adopted the design for their SBC heads for that reason.

      Intake Runner Volume:
You need to match it to your hp goal. You want to size it to the minimum necessary for your power target. Too big can actually kill torque with virtually no benefit to top end power because of port velocity. Shoot for 220-230cc.

      Flow:
You'll need about 270cfm intake flow (@ 28" H20) at your maximum camshaft valve lift.

Hope your bottom end is bullet proof.

I have eagle crank and rods with forged pistons. The heads on it now are older Dart iron heads that have been ported but I don't know the size. It has a hydraulic roller with about .530 lift and .252 duration at .05. I am running 10.1 compression. I thought with a little bigger cam and some updated heads I could pick up some hp. I am running a supervictor intake with a holley 750 hp carb. thanks

Your going to need a bigger carb. Like about 850-870cfm or so.
