Other hobbies!

A good friend of mine and member here has two sons and he spends alot of time with them. His car hobby, like alot of us has taken a backseat as the boys get older. He sent me this video clip yesterday and I thought I would share it here. As you can see, the Dad (helping son) is a big boy himself, so both sons have good genes. His oldest is playing football and as a freshman was kicking senior butt this past year. Now, the younger son has decided he wants to follow in his Dad's other hobby, weightlifting. I know some of you have to be into this, and will love the video. Remember, Chandler is 8!

My father was into bodybuilding/powerlifting... got me started when I was very young (probably around this age). Nothing to the extent of this, but the funny thing is I still do it today (even competed a few years back). I played football and baseball growing up and still lift to this day (competition has taken a sideline because I now have a son/ too many hobbies). People may say its causes problems for future physical development, but it looks like dad knows what he's doing and knows that rest is also key. I say its better than the other 95% of the population of kids that sit on their ass and play video games all day. If anything, these types of things build confidence as well as help set a path for being involved in future physical activites...

James, not sure about what the proper age, etc is to start this. I do know the Dad, David has been doing this since he was young and I am sure is doing it under advisement of their doctor, trainer, etc.
You are right Sean, better they do some type of exercise than sitting around working a PS2. I am always amazed that kids are not allowed to be kids these days, never see any outside playing anymore. 20 more years, and no one will leave their house, but will live in a virtual world????

MYTH. With proper technique, good nutrition, and good training cycles this doesn't harm kids in any way.

I hear that. My boys will play as 10 & 7 year olds next year. Coaching baseball drinks 6 days a week from March until mid June and continues all year. Not to mention other stuff. I got drafted to the league BOD and even have a coaching clinic to attend next fri & sat if my back will let me (that is another story). RTTS is opening day weekend no less!! Argh!! lol

My big boy started pitching last fall and he is jazzed. My little guy's team won the championship for their division last year. Neither are superstars but boy we have fun.




Plus I try to help run a local camaro/firebird club, plus nastyZ. I had some other hobbies but I got no other time right now. The better half always has a honey-do list.

My twin 16 yo 6'4 200# boys take up an incredible amount of time. They just play baseball. This off season we only did baseball 4 days a week instead of 6. Pitching lessons Every Wens, Hitting on Tues & Thurs Throwing long toss just about every other day. This does not include their lifting program they do 5 days a week every morning. All of this work is paying off as They both throw in the mid 80s and started cranking out the home runs this fall. Its tough to work on the cars with all of this but we get to sometimes on the weekends when their workouts are in the early mornings. This will pay off as they should get many offers to go to school. We have been talked with at many of the tournaments they have played in this summer. We play with some R/C cars too. Mainly just bashing no time to race. My car (71 challenger) has been put on the back burner as we have worked on their daily driver trucks. The 78 Trans Am has been started on 68 FB Mustang next just never enough time. I do try to get at least something done every week on one of the cars.

Nice! I played on that very field during all-stars over the summers growing up... (I played for Sunnybrae, so only during some away games)... my little guy has a few more years to go before he starts, but it should be fun...
