carb breaking up under moderate throttle

i have a edelbrock performer series 650cfm carb, and i was driving my car the other day before it was tucked away for the winter and when i got on the throttle(heavy) the car sputtered and fell on its face! i lifted off the throttle and eased back on it and it was fine but when i romped on the gas it would break up and lose all power. what do you guys think is wrong? tune? thanks-Dom

I have a Holley so i'm not sure about Edelbrocks, but I know when I've had similar issues with any car I've owned, it was almost always the accelerator pump. it's an easy place to start...

then i'd check fuel filter, fuel pump, maybe even some vaccum hoses. Eliminate the easy stuff first... Hope this helps bud... i'd bet its the accelerator pump though.

      Are you going to RTTS?

I'm with sr73bu, the accelerator pump in the edelbrocks is a simple plunger type, if you get a rebuild kit the rubber plunger comes with it. during dry storage, the rubber shrinks and no longer fits tight in the bore. The fuel simply moves around it instead of being pushed past the check ball and out into the incoming air. get a kit and take the top of the carb off, replace the plunger (and the top gasket) and try it.
