      cage rules and specs... 411

So questions and concerns have been raised in multiple posts in the past regarding roll cages. I've looked and havnt found the right section in any rule books for the specs rules and dimensions needed for a proper roll cage. Im looking for obviously safety but really something that will fit any class or category. Material doesn't matter nor do bends I just need a link to the proper rules. I've heard chrome moly is to rigid? DOM is what is used for road racing? Just want to do what's correct.

      Does anyone have a link?

Read NASA rules and SCCA rules as well as NHRA rules. These should cover most. SIlver state and other openroad races have specific rules as well. Also the mile races have specific rules. Once you read through all of those it ends up being hard to build a cage or roll bar to meet everything, depending on your speeds.

      I would suggest a 1 3/4" DOM with .120 wall thickness.

      main hoop only 4 bends
      back braces not bent
      harness and seat bar
      diagonal across the main hoop
door bars are tricky, everyone has different specs.

If you are going with a cage the a-pillar bars can have 1 bend.
I think the halo bar can only have two bends.
Gussets at all connections are nice!

      All pieces the same material.

All mounting points need to have a 6"x6" plate. If its bolted use 3/8" grade 8 fasteners and a backup plate.

      Fun starts on page 15

Plan on mild steel DOM. Some sanctions give n concession any more for 4140 so there's no incentive to spend the extra coin

Thanks TO. Thats what I needed, links are a great place to start. New to the world of road racing so wasnt quite sure of the sanctioning bodies who oversee these types of things. Thanks
