      Turbocharged 69 Camaro

Just thought I would post some pics of my 69 as I know I will be needing some advice in the coming months. I have had the car for about 7 yrs. now and have drag raced it and done a little SCCA racing with it. 12.3 at 111 is the best so far at Rocky Mountain Raceway. The motor is a 383 with 462 heads and my own port job. The turbo is a GT42R. I fabbed the headers myself and tack welded them together so a local welder could tig them. The headers were easy compared to plumbing the 5 inch exhaust out and underneath the car. I am transitioning to 5 inch oval and then into a 5 inch oval Spin Tech muffler that will disharge in front of the rear tire. I sure hope that it isn't to loud! I am leaning toward the Big Stuff 3 FI but have not made a decision yet. I will post more as the project comes together and would appreciate any advice.

      Thanks,

      Tim

Thanks for the kind words Ralph. The motor did 434 hp @ 4400 and 557 ft. lbs. @3800 rpm on a Mustang chassis dyno. This was with a 175 shot of nitrous that was a bit rich because I did not have a bottle heater at the time. The math tells me that the turbo should do 715 hp. @ 15 psi. I really don't think this motor can handle that much but time will tell.

Brake Guard is what is printed on them. They were on the car when I bought it and the brakes work surprisingly well for a disc-drum setup. I am hoping the car will be so fast once the turbo is done that a big 4-wheel disc setup will be needed. LOL. The driveability up till now has been great, albeit somewhat stiff with the Global West leafs and Guldstrand springs.

      Question

Someone educate me. Isn't the wastegate supposed to be BEFORE the turbine to bleed exhaust TO the 5" pipe and not from it?

      Cool car regardless.

The wastegate will be mounted approximately where it is in the picture. There will be a 1 3/4" pipe that will come off just before the flange where the 2 1/2" pipes come together. This will feed into the wastegate. I am working on the wastegate this week so I will post some pics when it is complete.

Right after i clicked submit for my post I said, "You know he probably will install a bypass from the turbine flange to the wastegate." That is why it is your project and not mine.

Like I said cool car regargless of my scrutiny.

So your 1 3/4 pipe is going to be tied into both charge pipes?

Interesting set-up though. Can't say I've seen the charge pipes run that way before. (unless I have lost my mind for a few minutes)
