      TCI Suspension

I am new to the forum and apologize in advance if this information is available, I could not locate it. I have a 67 camaro and I am considering the purchase of the TCI suspension system, front and back. I was hoping to find someone within this site, which has already made the installation, if they are pleased with the performance etc. It appears the installation if relatively straight forward and I do not have any concerns associated to this effort. I am more interested in finding out from a user, if they are pleased with the results.

      Mack10,

I have a jumbo size spreadsheet evaluating all of the major suspension mfgrs (costs primarily). I can send it to you if you wish-----I've been working on it for months.

I have a 67 Camaro, and plan to do a full suspension, brakes, rear axle, LS3, and a T56 6-speed swap this winter. I am attempting to keep my Budget under control, but it has been rather difficult.

I am also considering TCI and Speedtech.

What do you intend to do with the car?

We have installed about most of the suspension systems out there and sell many of them.

If we had a better idea of budget and what is most important to you, we could help you make a decision.

I will see what I can do. Is it easy to attach a spreadsheet to a thread? Or should I convert it to a PDF?

Tim from Tim's Hot Rods is a wealth of knowledge and he is from Davenport, WA. His screenname on here is ibuildm. You can also talk to Cdog, he drove a TCI equipped Camaro at the RTTC event.

      Bobby:
I would love the spreadsheet, the camaro will be primarily a street car, but I would also like to spend time at the track. I work with a bunch of gear heads, who primarily drive the modern sports cars, I don't expect to keep up with them, but would love to give them a run for their money. I have located an LS with transmission out of a modern GTO, with low miles, it appears to be a good combination. I originally was looking at the Heidts, but had the opportunity to speak with Tim (Tim's Hot Rods) listed below, he mentioned TCI. The Kit looks like the correct decision, but it would be nice to see how they perform, or speak to someone first hand. The videos on You-Tube etc., are difficult to really get an impression of speed and handling. Thanks

      Mack10,

I have similar requirments for my 67 (primarily street driving with occasional track days). Seeing this is the case, it is more practical to modify your stock sub frame (Frank will set you up with a great system for around 2500---Speedtech arms, Steering Box, Sway bar, etc...).
I have been evaluating weather I need an aftermarket sub frame (which appears to be a 2000-2500 dollar upgrade for speedtech--beyond the arms only conversion). When you are doing an LS/T56 Swap, you will save some money with the speedtech sub----motor mounts and a tranny mount. This makes the speedtech sub more appealing than just doing the arms.
Also, do you plan to run wider front tires, and do you feel you really need a rack/pinion?

I would speak with both Tim and Frank. They are extremely helpful, and neither will try to up sell you into something you do not need. Both have vast experience, and will take the time to speak with you.

Also, DaytonayellowZ can help you acquire various dropout motors or trannies (he carries LS2's, LS3's, and L92's). He is very helpful, and also is knowledgable when it comes to LS Swap issues such as fuel delivery, wiring, etc.

I will send my spreadsheet once I get a chance to clean it up a little......

There's a few guys in here that have driven/raced our kits. I know there are a bunch more still under construction. Cdog is a great example of real world experience with an unbiased opinion. He hopped into a recently finished car that was untested and he did very well. That car was not mini-tubbed either which it needed with all that power on tap.

I started the screenname back when I was drag racing turbo 4 doors. The name just stuck over the years.

Send Cdog a PM and he'll give you some unbiased opinions on the TCI kit. He got some good seat time that day so he knows first hand and he's not affiliated with Tim.

Please see attached spreadsheets. Both are in currently in process, and some of the information is not complete, or it is aimed at my specific intentions.

Feel free to call me with questions.

      Thanks.

Do you have a different application for a car that will be street driven almost exclusively vs one that will be raced exclusively? I ask because I am working on a brand "F" car that will be setup exclusively for SCCA Solo II in their prepared category. I have heard from several people whose opinion I respect and they are telling me to use off the shelf stock car products and build my own front suspension. While this initially sounds cheaper I am by no means an engineer and would prefer a system like yours that is designed to work together. This car will run 13 and 14" wide slicks front and rear respectively and want to optimize whatever front suspension ultimately goes under the car.

The base pieces remain the same, that is to say the frame, control arms, spindles remain the same. Everything else will be tailored to the given needs of the customer(brake size, spring rates, shock type(dingle or double adj), manual or power steering, anti-sway bar size, and of course finish.

Is this a Mustang you're working on? The Custom IFS for the Mustang would be an excellent choice. If it is a full size car the Camaro clip might be a good choice since it has a wider track.

Yes it's a Mustang, after I learn a little more I'll be contacting you to discuss it further as I don't want to threadjack. Thanks for the info.

Are the TCI suspensions new? Does anyone have track videos with a TCI suspension car? Can a TCI suspension car pull 1G on a skid pad? I don't see many people talking about them like they do some of the other brands. I see lots of discussion about DSE, Art Morrison, ridetech, Hotchkis and others but when TCI is mentioned it seems like everyone starts dancing around something and that makes me curious why. I have seen the same thing on some Camaro forums as well.

We have done very well at every event we have ever taken our Camaro to. We finished nearly 2 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor at the 2009 Handling Challenge autocross. We ran 1G on the skidpad that same day but Super Chevy averaged 5 runs together so the published number was lower. We won both the Vegas and Phoenix Super Chevy autocrosses. We placed 3rd at the 2010 RTTC autocross, 6th at the brake challenge and 11th on the road course. This was the first time we had our car on a road course so we quickly realized the 350hp SBC and 700R4 were out of place. We placed 4th at the 2010 Del Mar goodguys. We had the 2nd fastest time at the 2010 Costa Mesa Goodguys, that was with Mary driving and she only made ONE pass in the car. Unfortunately, we have missed some other big publicity events like the Columbus Goodguys and OUSCI, hopefully this year that will change.

Here is a page on our website devoted to the Camaro racing results with videos.

Since I didn't see the ridetech components on your spreadsheet, I'm thinking you probably aren't considering air suspension. But we now have our own line of coil overs that are completely compatible with our Strongarms and Airbar 4 link kits. I'll send you a link when I return to my desktop, but a complete front and rear system with control arms, tall spindles, bolt in 4 link, front and rear sway bars, and top of the line triple adjustable coil overs would be around $6400. More info tomorrow.
