      New kid from MI

Hey all, new kid from Michigan, figured I would say ‘Hi’ and start off with my first question.

First a little about me. I'm new to all of this but extremely interested in learning everything I can about cars and pro-touring. I just turned 20 (today), and I am currently a junior at Michigan State University.

Onto the car, or dream...car. For a while now I have been looking around for a while trying to find the right first gen Camaro.....I know, everyone else has one, boring. But anyways I recently found one that sounds pretty good from a guy that lives near me. I talked to him a bit about his car and will hopefully go see it in person soon.

My question is about frame mounts. The guy said a couple have rusted out, so I was wondering what kind of work it takes to repair these. I've been reading this site, numerous restoration diaries, and a book about restoring cars; so I have a basic idea of what all lies ahead of me. However I don't recalling seeing much about repairs on frame mounts. Any help on that, or any other tips you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.

      Great site and TIA

      Welcome to the insanitity!

I lived in Shelby for quite a few years, VanDyke and 21 1/2 mile to be exact.

The rust you will encounter is going to be bad if the corners are rusted out already. Depending on your skill level and tools I can see a full chassis in your near future depending on what you plan on doing with the car.

I would contact companys like Classic Industries or Sherman and Assoc. to see if they have patch panels. Maybe someone in the sun belt has a floorpan they are willing to part with.

I picked it up earlier today

      Gas Stations here I come

First on deck are new tires, as the ones on the car are too big. Any suggestions on tires or where I should take it from there? This summer I am just going to get it going on the road (tires, exhaust, locks, other unkown things), and next summer I am going to really start working on it

Car is a 350 with 4 speed and front disc brakes

Welcome to the site 23cb. Congrats on the purchase. If you live in Shelby then you are only about 30-45 minutes north of me. I live in Muskegon, MI. Your car looks very clean! If you ever need any help with it let me know especially since I live so close.

Adam, I think he's in Shelby Township, not Shelby. He'd be on the other side of the state. I could be wrong though.

23CB...welcome to the site. If you are indeed in Shelby Township then I'm only 20 minutes from ya. I'm in Chesterfield Township (next to New Baltimore). I have a '68 that's approaching the halfway point of my restoration. See my website below, you'll find some good stuff in there. In regards to your question about fixing the sub-frame, I had to do that to mine also and used this kit to fix it. It worked awesome. I invite you to stop by sometime to check out my progress and I can show you the repairs I did to the frame. Your in good company here....we have a lot of people from Michigan that are members of this site.

That looks like a pretty sweet ride you got there. Actually looks familiar. That wouldn't happen to have a light blue interior and a 4 speed in it, would it? That might be my friend Mark's old car.

      Thanks guys.

Yeah I live in the Twp cb69; it's about 20 miles north of Detroit in the Utica/Rochester area. However if I'm ever around Muskegon, I'll have to check out your ride.

Trapin, the car does have a 4 speed but it's got a black interior. I'll definitely have to take you up on your offer and see what you've done with your car, especially since I am new to all of this. Any ideas on where to get a good deal on tires around here?

If all of you guys go to Woodward in Detroit this year we will definetly have to hook up. That was the best car event I have attended in my life and you guys live not to far from it. I dont ever plan on missing Woodward ever again in my life. I personally prefer Woodward over the Power tour. Both are great but once you see Woodward its something you cant compare anything else to.

Turkey Run in Daytona is cool. 6000 cars plus nightly cruising on A1A.

      sorry

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest one-day celebration of car culture that attracts over 1.7 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles. 16 miles long!!!
      Woodward wins.

23CB...as far as I'm concerned, Discount Tire is the best. I go to the one by my house off of 23 mile Rd.

Are you looking for wheels and tires or just tires?

If you come by this weekend you can check out my wheels and tires up close and see if you like them. They are Billet Specialties HP-25 with Nitto ZR rubber. I wasn't going to say anything until next year but they will be for sale soon. I am going with a different wheel and tire combo.

I will be coming home to Utica the weekend of June 25 for my 20th reunion, Do you guys meet up anywhere on the weekends?

When I was in High school we started meeting at the Burger King/Clydes Carpet after skating at "The Rink".

I am located down by Coldwater MI... way down at the bottom central part of the state. Yeah I attend the Woodward cruise every year (well, missed last years due to drinking too much the night before!) Usually a group of us get a hotel or stay with friends for Friday night and hit the bars, then we're ready to go Saturday morning!

      Welcome to the site,

Oh no, not another Michigan State Student. My wife graduated from MSU. For those that don't know this. MSU favorite team is anybody that beats University of Michigan. Ha-ha, My wife is a nut. At the age of 48 she still puts the MSU flag out every game week during football season.
      LOL. R.P.
