      Street Machine Nationals

Hello everyone, I wasn't real sure where to put this but I thought the outhouse would be the best. If it's in the wrong place, I apologize.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone here used to go to the Street Machine Nationals during the 80s & 90s in Duquoin, Springfield etc., etc. Do you have any photos or experiences you'd like to share from those days? I was never able to go to any of the shows back then but I love the cars from those days(just as much as the cars of today). I have a website dedicated to street machines and am looking for photos, stories etc. to give people an idea of what it was like back then and to show how street machines have evolved into what they are today. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

      Thank you

      Michael.

My buddies and I went religiously from 82 (springfield) thru 92 or whatever year Duquoin thru em out. Too much fun. We thrash to get our cars done, drive thru the night to get there and try to kill ourselves all weekend.
Drink entirely too much during the day while try to get any woman to flash us. Then back to the hotel for burnout contests and somewhere along the way we always ended up in that funky strip joint between Duquoin and Carbondale (JB's place)

I was doing a google image search a while back and found this funny picture:
It's me and my buddies being flashed by these girls in a four door convertible. I don't know the guy that took the picture, i just stumbled upon it.

Like I said, I dont know any of the GRSRA but their pics are a good representation and look pretty much like mine.
I really need to get my pics scanned in.

These guys have pics posted from 1980 to 1992. Looking thru their photos is like looking thru my photos. except their photos seem a little more family friendly!

I just checked out your website - I've got movies. pictures - I think I still have the dash plagues! You forgot Matt and Debbie Hay's T-Bird. Troy's pink Chevelle, the green '61.....oh man the cutting edge stuff with all the Tweed interiors. My car still has the bubble gum stripe on it from 1988. Great times for sure and all I can remember was the smell of the race gas, the pork loin stand in the shaded corner to the left of the entrance to the state fair grounds in Duquoin, the girls on top of the motor home in the Kmart parking lot! (I have those pictures). Wow that was 20 years ago! How many of you remember the neon glow valve covers that Holley made? I've got a set of "Hot Pink" units for a Pink Cuda that my dad owned....Never installed and still on the shelf.

I remember the good ole days. My step dad and mom started taking us in 77 or 78, the second year it was in Indy. Then we followed it to Springfield, Duquoin, Joliet, back to Indy, then to Lima. What a time it was. We went on the Power Tour this year and it stopped in Duquoin and it still smells like Beer..........The driving events and riding to do the potato tose....
