      Installing Axle Bearings

How are you guys installing bearings on your axles? I just got new 9" axles/bearings from Moser. Fairly light tapping with a hammer doesn't seem to do it. Plus its difficult to apply even pressure. Use a brass drift? I suppose I could have then pressed on but I'd like to do it myself if possible.

The bearings must be pressed on. Be sure that you have any retainer plates, caliper brackets, seals or anything else that goes on the axle installed before you put the bearings on. If you have to remove the bearings to install anything else then you will have to buy new bearings.

The bearings must be pressed on. I have a relatively cheap press (20 ton) that I bought from Harbor Freight for ~$200 and it pressed them on fine. Just be sure to use a piece of hardwood between the pressing head and the axle to prevent any damage.
