      Making my own Injection

i'm doing homework on Injection and I got a serious desire to cast my own log style injection manifold. Im using Solidworks to make a 3D model to be printed out in ABS plastic, then make a mold and casting.

Is there any books about designing an intake?
any good books or threads on building your own injection system?
How do you determine runner length, and throttle body diameter, etc.?

I want to design it to function with or without forced induction, and the first one I make will be going on my 396.

this is the Idea that I'm goin with. I'm still getting dimensions off a factory intake, but want to know as much as I can through this project.

any input and advice is much appreciated.

      Thanks
      -Matt

just a few things i see already. you don't want to split your penum in 2 like that. can run into lean or rich bank conditions. you are going to have very interesting distribution, especially your rear cylinders. runner length is WAY to short, unless you want only high end power. how are you going to radius the runner inlets? injector bosses? fuel rail clearance for injector to aim correctly into the runner? water outlet? distributor?

on a side note, it looks kinda cool. save your time and money and get a miniram or stealthram. or, a cross ram style, straight runners, ending all in a common air box you can put air horns on the end, single inlet, thick plexy top. easier than what your trying to do and will far outperform, and look the **** too!

awesome! I totally appreciate your response! i'm young but got the time to learn.

so 1. have a single plenum.
any reason to use 1 throttle body instead of 2?

      2. distribution, you want less open space towards rear cylinders?

      3. what would be a good runner length??

      4. I'm still working on rendering a factory manifold for dimensions and thats holding me up on injector positioning

      5. water outlet will be in front, and distributorless?

That is a Bad A$$ design, but I have to agree with overZealous1 that you will have issues with it...Refer to Tom Nelsons design for some ideas..Billet Intake
Common plenums removes many issues with tuning.
Longer runner length = Tq, Shorter = Hp.
On a common plenum design, Multi smaller throttle bodies can achieve high flow at WOT and can be set-up progressive for slower tip-in response, easier tuning, better drivability. (except for multiple on a single shaft) One big single = touchy/quick response.

Anyone here use Logan, Wilson, or Hogan sheet metal intake manifolds?

My son bought a used Hilborn intake manifold on EBay and then made everything else from scratch. He drilled all the holes for the injectors, made the intakes from carbon fiber, made his wiring harness, designed and built all the linkage, and did his own programming for the system. He also made a carbon fiber air box for it. The amazing thing was that he built all this while I was storing his '69 Camaro and he was in France working for Michelin. He gave me a list of things to measure under the hood. I used a ruler and took many photos which I e-mailed to him. After he installed the system, he had to make one small notch in the underside of the hood for clearance. Other than that, everything fit. It's on a 406 small block.
